Dear Parents,
I wanted to reach out since I have received a call or email about our equipment collection and our reconditioning process. This is for those parents who purchased the Riddell Speed Flex helmet.
Each year at the end of the season I will collect all of the helmets. We then have the helmets sent out for reconditioning and it is paid for as part of our athletic budget. We ship them to get cleaned up, repainted, reconditioned and then ultimately pass the NOCSAE standard for reconditioning. Each helmet will need to receive the new 2017 sticker for next season.
Once the helmets come back from reconditioning in the spring and we start to hand out the helmets and I will make sure that your player receives the same Riddell Speed Flex type that you had purchased for him to wear this past season. I have a list of each player who purchased one and which size. At the end of each season I will collect the helmets and follow the same procedure. This ensures that each helmet is properly taken care of and that you don’t have to worry about the expensive reconditioning on your own.
At the end of four years once your player is done playing with the program those helmets will stay in the program.
I hope this clears up the confusion or at least explains the process we use and how each year will be handled with those players who purchased Riddell helmets and Riddell shoulder pads.
If you still have questions or concerns, please call me directly at (703) 973-1132 or you can email me at brian.day@lcps.org.
Thank you for your support. It has been a great year and its only going to keep getting better.
Thank you,
Coach Day

Dear Parents,
What a great win vs. Mason and what a great effort vs. Central Woodstock. We had so many different players step up and contribute to help the team. It was great to see and it has been a lot of fun. I know this is early but I wanted to reach out and explain our football situation that we have put ourselves in. We are currently sitting at 2 and 6 for the season and that has put our team into the playoff picture for the VHSL 3A East Division AA playoff hunt. We have a bit of a unique situation because we are a new school to the VHSL. We have two games left and if we win one of the last two we are almost assured of a playoff spot. If we don’t win any games, then our fate comes down to power points. We won’t know if we have made the playoffs until Saturday, Nov 5th once all of the VHSL games have been played and the power points have been counted.
Riverside’s regular season ends at Freedom HS on Friday, 10/28. The VHSL regular season ends on Friday, 11/4. That week of 10/31-11/4 is our bye week and we will have practice during that week. On Saturday, 11/5 we will find out our playoff fate.
The reason I am writing is because this week 11 bye affects those players trying out for a winter sports team which starts on 11/7. I wanted everyone to be able to plan accordingly so you are aware of our situation. As we get closer to the end of the season and we know more I will share what the plan is for our football players staying out for football and how it will affect their winter sports tryouts. If any freshman player wants to move on to their winter sport they will be free to do so. Coach Fenner and I will talk with the players and have them let us know what they want to do. We will want to have all freshman stay out and practice with the team during the week 11 bye and of course the 1st round of the playoffs. At this point I am not sure I will be able to have every player travel with the varsity team but if a player wants to commit I will do everything in my power to get them on our play off roster.
Schedule RECAP-
10/28 our last game vs. Freedom
10/31-11/4 VHSL week 11 but it’s our BYE week. We will practice that week from 4:15pm-6:15pm M-Th.
11/5- ALL VHSL games will have been played and I will know if we made the playoffs. The team will meet at 9am in the weight room to either celebrate or turn in our equipment for the season and clean the locker room.
11/7-First day of Winter Sports Tryouts but if we make the playoffs it’s our 1st day of play off practice.
11/7-11/11 is the 1st round of the VHSL Playoffs.
11/11-game to be determined.
This is exciting times for our football program and a little fact in the history of LCPS we would be only the second team in the county’s history to make the playoffs as a second year school.
As always if you have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me at brian.day@lcps.org or (703) 973-1132.
Thank you for your support and let’s keep it going.
Sincerely,
Coach Day

Dear Parents and Players,
First let me state at what an awesome atmosphere Friday night was for our team. Our boys played their hearts out. We as a staff couldn't be more pleased with the effort. We need to continue to build and learn from some of our mistakes but that is part of the process in a second year program. It was a tough and emotional loss but I want you to know what my message to the team was. We have a long season to go to reach our team goals. As I tell the boys "it (the winning process) is never easy but it will be worth it." This is a long journey we (parents, players and coaches) are all on together. Thank you for all of the support you have already showed the team and your boys. We are on to the next week and building the program one week at a time.

Dear Parents,
We have had many parents ask if they could still purchase a helmet and/or shoulder pads for their player for this upcoming season. I have asked Riddell to create an online store for you to log on to and place an order if you want to. (THIS IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL AND NOT REQUIRED TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT RVHS)
The online store will be open from July, 31st thru August 3rd. If you want to order something for the season you must do it by August 3rd. It will take about 2-3 weeks to arrive at your house.
Directions:
Step 1: Log onto KTForms.com
Step 2: Type in our Online Store ID in the box at the top of the page which is riversidehs and click submit
Step 3: Select team merchandise and add to shopping cart (you or I can measure the players head to make sure you are purchasing the correct size for your player.)
Step 4: Once shopping is complete, click CHECKOUT & either register as a new customer. Once you have purchased please email Coach Day at brian.day@lcps.org so I know what you ordered and I can help keep track of the order. You will be paying for Shipping/Handling and tax unfortunately. Riddell will ship the equipment directly to your home.
Again this is an optional purchase and is a donation to the football program. We will make sure your player is wearing this equipment while he is part of the program and the equipment will be left to the program after they leave the program.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at brian.day@lcps.org.
Sincerely,
Coach Day

Dear Parents and Players,
What a great home environment we are creating here at Riverside. The players and coaches appreciate all of the support and the great crowds we have been getting at home. Thank you!
In-Season Lifting
As we are going through the grind of the season, it is important for our athletes to participate in scheduled lifting sessions. It plays a large role in the physical recovery of the players. The program is designed to be short and sweet; it shouldn’t take the players more than 45 minutes to complete each session. Many players have been able to complete it in 35 minutes. Our in-season morning lifting sessions are for those players who are not in our ADV. PE Weight Training classes.
Freshman will lift on Tuesday and Thursday AM’s starting at 7:30am-8:30am.
10th-12th grade players will lift on Monday’s and Wednesday’s starting at 7:30am-8:30am.

We will watch film from 3:00 pm-4:30 pm and practice from 4:30 pm-7:00 pm. We will have a short week to prepare for Strasburg since we will be playing on Thursday, 9/8.

Parents,
We have changed tomorrows scrimmage to 8am. ALL Players need to report at 6am and team meeting at 6:30am. We will look at the weather report tomorrow and the high heat index to make a decision on either playing the freshman scrimmage at the same time as the Varstiy/JV scrimmage in the stadium going different directions. Players will be off from Friday afternoon until Monday at 3pm when they need to have their practice pants on and we will watch film then go out to the stadium for practice. I hope all of you can make it tomorrow AM.
