Helmet Collections, Team Store, VEL Sign up

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Three quick things that you need to know:

  1. If you checked out a helmet for this summer, you need to return it now so that we can send them out to be reconditioned and recertified. Please turn them into the Athletic Office no later then the end of the school day Thursday 8/29.
  2. Remember if you have not signed up for the VEL yet, please do so ASAP. We are still short a number of players.
  3. We have pushed back the closing date of the State Championship Team Store. You now have until 9/1 to place your order!

Fall 2019 VEL Sign Up

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

We hope that you have had a fantastic summer of spending time with your families, relaxing, and playing a little lacrosse!

Now it is time to register for the VEL Lacrosse Fall League. This league is very well organized and extremely competitive. Playing against top level competition will help our entire program grow. To sign up please follow the link below.

http://www.virginia-elite-lacrosse.com/?nomobile=true&org=WP.VIRGINIA-ELITE-LACROSSE.COM (Please choose the appropriate Varsity or JV button)

*Note:

We would like all returning Varsity Players and/or 11th and 12th graders to sign up for the Riverside Varsity team.

  • We would like remaining 9th and 10th graders to sign up for the Riverside JV Team.

We feel that splitting the teams this way will optimize each players’ experience and allow them to grow their skills with quality repetitions. Please also note, that playing in this VEL league in no way indicates which team you will be on during the spring season, nor does it solidify a spot in the program. This league is a way for you to improve your game as a player and do so by having fun with your Riverside Ram teammates.

Tryouts for the Spring teams will begin on February 17th, 2020. We make all decisions for spring teams at that time.

Go Rams! ALL IN!

Games vs. Heritage Tonight

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Slight change to today’s schedule. Due to some construction at Heritage HS. The Varsity Girls game is being moved here to Riverside. What does that mean for us? Not a huge change with times:

  • JV Boys Game will be @ 6pm on the practice turf (“The Cage”)
    • Fans, please bring a lawn chair, and sit on the opposite side from the teams.
    • You will still need to pay admission to the JV game, you will NOT be charged twice when you head the stadium for the Varsity game.
  • Varsity Girls Game will be @ 6pm in the Stadium
  • Varsity Boys Game will be @ 7:15pm in the Stadium

This is an awesome opportunity to watch both programs in action! Our girls are AWESOME, get there early to watch them compete! Let’s pack the stand for both games, should be a great night.

Week of 4/22-4/27

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

We hope you all have enjoyed a fantastic Spring Break! We should all be rested, bodies healed, and our minds excited to make the final push of the regular season, and then continue the momentum into the playoffs.

I also wanted to take a moment, being that we are moving into conference play and then the playoffs, for a friendly reminder. As we get deeper into the season, our games will be become more meaningful, more intense, and emotions will be heightened. Lacrosse is an emotional, and physical game. Everyone can get caught up in that emotion from time to time, players, fans, and coaches. Let’s be sure that we carry ourselves at a higher standard of class then the other schools we play. Let’s cheer positively for all the boys on the field. Let’s continue to respect official’s and understand that they will miss calls from time to time. Let’s continue to be ALL IN, on and off the field. Our coaching staff loves the enthusiasm you all bring to the program, thank you so much for all that you do in support!

Below is the schedule for the week:

3/8 Intra Squad Scrimmage is Canceled

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Due to many different reasons, most importantly being this afternoons weather. We are canceling our scheduled intra-squad scrimmage. Both teams (JV and Varsity) will be practicing however.

  • 4:15-6:15pm on the Practice turf.

Also, a reminder to the Varsity Players about tomorrow:

  • Bring a bottle of water and a packed lunch. Also, maybe a few snacks if you get hungry.
  • Dress for the weather. The weather looks to be in the mid 30’s during the morning, warming to the mid 40’s by the afternoon. Please consider hats, gloves, and as many layers necessary. As a good rule of thumb, everyone should bring at least one MORE layer than they think they will need.
  • Wear closed toed/closed heeled shoes (sneakers or boots are perfect). It has been wet lately, so keep in mind that shoes might get muddy!
  • Remember this program will run rain or shine.
  • Cease use of electronic devices whenever possible. They will tell you to put your phones away while on the course.
  • Bus leaves school at 7am. We should return to Riverside by 4pm.

Thank you for your flexibility.

Last Tryout Tonight 2/21

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope everyone has had a relaxing two days off of school and are ready to finish up the last day of tryouts.

We are excited that we will have the opportunity to get outside tonight. With the high temperatures, sweats will be optional tonight, but encouraged.

Our practice time is 7:00pm in the stadium. Be sure to arrive by 6:50pm to get dressed and ready to go. We will warm up at 7:00pm and then take the field at 7:15pm. We will try and be finished as soon as possible tonight to get players home, but as we have said we feel as though it is important to address each player.

Estimated end times to go home are as followed:

  • Younger players should be done around 8:45.
  • Older players around 9:30.

See everyone tonight. ALL IN!

2/21 (Final Tryout) Updates

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Happy snow day! As the snow continues to fall, we are reminded that the forecast is calling for rising temperatures and rain to continue throughout the night, this may cause some serious melting. With that said, we wanted to send you all the information that we know as of now.

With Basketball winning last night, their season has been extended for at least 7 more days, causing a bit of a scheduling change for indoor space.

As of now, this is what we are looking at for tomorrow:

  • If we have school and the rain/temperatures clear the snow off the turf field, we will tryout from 4:15-6:00pm outside.
    • Remember, we will dismiss players a bit later then 6pm for player meetings.
  • If we have school but cannot get on the turf due to the snow, we will tryout from 8:15-10:15pm in the main gym.
  • If there is no school and no extra-curricular activities, there will be no tryouts tomorrow. Moving our 3rd and final tryout to Friday.
  • If there is no school, but they allow extra-curricular activities, a new master practice schedule will be created, and we will communicate that with you as soon as possible.

Please monitor email, text message, website, and twitter tomorrow for updates. We will try and get information to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    • Goalies and Faceoff Guys are on the field at 7:44am. All other players, the whistle blows at 7:59am. Please do not be late.

Wednesday 2/20 – Tryout Day 3. Practice 4:15-6:00pm (Practice Turf)

  • This is the last day of tryouts. Please be prepared to stay a bit later as we feel it is important to talk to each player about their tryout.
  • If we do not have school Wednesday due to weather, the third and final tryout day will be the next day we return to school.

Thursday 2/21 – Practice 4:15-7:00pm (Practice Turf)

1/29 Green Day and 1/30 Stick Work

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

We have been pretty unlucky with weather here in January, seems as though it always comes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hopefully the pattern will change soon.

With the two hour early dismissal today, the green day scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

Tomorrow, they are expecting dangerously cold wind chills around the time that we have stick work scheduled. We will check tomorrow if that forecast holds true, and have an email out by noon.

As always, be sure to check out twitter account as well @RVHSLacrosse

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Stick Work 1/16 and Team Building 3/9

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

With the amount of snow on the field, we will be canceling stick work for tomorrow as well. You can always find a wall and get some touches on your own.

  • IMPORTANT! Please mark a date on your calenders. We will be doing a team building day at GMU on March 9th. It will last until mid-afternoon. We reserved that date in the fall, however there seems to be an SAT on that day. There are two more SAT dates after that as well, May 4th and June 1st. If you are in fact planning on taking the SAT on March 9th it is imperative that you let Coach Worek know by next Wednesday. If too many players are taking it that day, we will be forced to move the team building date or cancel that activity...

If you have any questions please reach out and ask.

Week of 1/14

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope you all enjoyed the snow and stayed safe and warm. We just wanted to update you all on a couple of things going into this week.

  • Please remember that if we ever have a 2 hour delay on a lifting day, there will be no lifting that day.
  • Due to the fields covered with snow, the Green Day scheduled for tomorrow 1/15 has been canceled.
  • We will wait and see about stick work for Wednesday 1/16. Temperatures are forecast to be warmer Wednesday, so if the fields melt, we will try and still hold stick work.

Thank you for you patience and understanding!

Winter 2019 Off Season Schedule

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Congratulations to the boys who played in the Turkey Shootout this past weekend. The long day finished with us taking the championship back to Leesburg! Great job by all, and thank you to the parents that supported us the whole day.

That was the last lacrosse event of 2018. We will continue to lift every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning through December. Players please be sure to check TeamBuildr for updates, workouts may still go on during break if you are around and want to get better, Coach Kirkland will send you messages on your App.

Below is the schedule for Winter 2019:

Lifting: Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. 7am. If you need a ride, ask. If you need to bring shower items to school, do so. We are finished between 8-8:15am every day, that is plenty of time to get things done before school. Make it a priority.

“We lift for ourselves, We lift for our teammates, We lift for June!”

Green Days: This winter, Green Day practices will be offered for 9th graders, 10th graders, and new lacrosse players only. They will be held from 6:00-7:45pm in the stadium. Full sweats are required. Dates are:

  • Tuesday, January 8th (Stadium)
  • Tuesday, January 15th (Stadium)
  • Tuesday, January 22nd (Stadium)
  • Tuesday, January 29th (Stadium)
  • Tuesday, February 5th (Stadium)

Stick Work: This winter we will hold stickwork sessions for 1 hour after school on Wednesdays. These sessions are for all players to improve their stickwork and shooting. Players are to wear Full Sweats, Helmets, Gloves, and Sticks. They will be held from 4:15-5:15pm on the Practice Turf (or until it is too dark). Dates are:

  • Wednesday, January 9th (Practice Turf)
  • Wednesday, January 16th (Practice Turf)
  • Wednesday, January 23rd (Practice Turf)
  • Wednesday, January 30th (Practice Turf)
  • Wednesday, February 6th (Practice Turf)

Important Dates:

  • Tryout Interest Meeting. Thursday, February 7th 4:15pm in Auditorium (location my change). ALL PLAYERS wishing to tryout must attend.
  • Paperwork Collection and Conditioning Test. Thursday, February 14th 4:15pm in Aux Gym. We consider this the first day of lacrosse. This is mandatory for all players. Bring Full Sweats, Cleats, and water.
  • First day of Tryouts. Monday, February 18th. We do not have school that day. Please block out the entire day as there will be 2 tryouts on that day. Times are TBD.

Spring Break:

As we have done in the past, Spring break will be free for players. As of now we are planning on practicing on Friday 4/12 after school. So that means, beginning Saturday 4/13, players will be free until Monday 4/22. Please enjoy that time with family and friends.

We know this is a bunch of information, but we wanted to get it out to you all early. Print this out and put in on your fridge, or plug it into your calendars.

Go Rams. ALL IN!

11/28 Green Day Canceled

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Unfortunately, we are going to be canceling the Green Day planned for tonight. With the sudden drop in temperatures, high winds and low 20s wind chill, we feel it would be detrimental to what we want to accomplish this evening.

Friday, we will still be having a Green Day @ 6pm for those playing in the Turkey Shootout. That practice is very important in preparation for Sundays Tournament.

Good turnout this morning at our lift, keep staying the course and we will see great things.

Week of 11/26 updates and reminders

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

A couple of quick things to remind you of:

  • Remember that we are lifting as a team on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 7am. This is the program expectation if you are not playing a winter sport. This is something that the coaches and seniors feel as though is important to best prepare our program for a long season in the spring. We want to gel positively as a program, build relationships, get stronger, and be at our best to help prevent injury. The only way that can be done, is if you are there in attendance. Be a great teammate.
  • We have two green days scheduled as of now for this week. Both days we are moving to a 6pm start time.
    • Wednesday 11/28 @ 6pm. This practice is for all players interested in attending. Weather is looking difficult, we were issued a high wind warning by our LCPS athletics for tomorrow. If the weather is bad (windy/cold) we may need to cancel. We will communicate with you.
    • Friday 11/30 @ 6pm. This practice is for those players playing in the Turkey Shootout only.
  • The Turkey Shootout is this coming Sunday 12/2. The location is at South County HS. Be on the lookout for an email from Mrs. Drennan regarding base camp sign ups. It always makes things more fun for the players when we have a great basecamp!

Looking forward to a great week of Riverside Rams Lacrosse!

Happy Thanksgiving

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Thank you all for creating such a positive and fun weekend for Riverside Lacrosse. Both Varsity teams had strong showings against very talented teams in both divisions. Our Riverside JV team (made up of all Freshmen players) won their Division. Moving forward they were the top seeded team going into the championship bracket. They then won two tough games in the playoffs to take home the 2018 Fall Brawl Championship! Great weekend all around.

Moving forward:

  • Please be sure to check the schedule posted earlier this fall for remaining fall green days and events.
  • Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, organized lifting for the remainder of the week will be canceled.
    • Workouts for Wednesday and Friday are posted in your teambuildr accounts if you wish to work on your own outside of school with your teammates.
    • Always be sure to check teambuildr apps for messages from Coach Kirkland
    • Workouts will resume Monday 11/26
  • Enjoy Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Week of 11/12 Updates and Reminders

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope this email finds everyone doing well, and recharging. Just wanted to send out a few quick notes about this week:

  • As a reminder we are still in the VHSL Dead Period for spring sports. That means we can have no contact as coaches with the team until Thursday 11/15.
  • Thursday 11/15 we will have a very important team meeting at 4:15pm in the weight room for all interested in playing lacrosse this spring. The meeting will last 15-20min.
  • Thursday 11/15 we will be changing the Green Day time. We will now practice from               5-6:45pm in the Stadium. So, we will meet in the weight room, then change and go to the stadium for practice.
  • Friday 11/16 we will start lifting again @ 7am. Now that winter sports have started, we will be changing our lifting days back to Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. This will hopefully give us more space to function and work hard.
  • Saturday 11/17 and Sunday 11/18 we will be competing in the Fairfax Fall Brawl at Robinson High School. Both Varsity teams will play on Saturday and our Freshmen will play on Sunday. This tournament is meant to be a fun tournament, celebrating the game in a positive way. We are looking forward to spending that time together. An email will be coming out to parents about logistics for our Ram Tent City.

2018 Fall Riverside Lacrosse Spirit Store

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

This just in! We have opened a fall team store through our friends at Kollegetown! We are offering custom Under Armour Riverside Lacrosse apparel at discounted prices. Many ladies cut items this year, as well as some great things for dads and siblings as well. One of the best items, that will not be included this spring in the player packs (but players will be allowed to wear in the spring), are custom Riverside Lacrosse Under Armour cold gear compression (Top and Bottom), perfect for wearing under your pads and keeping you warm early in the season!

Instructions are posted under the Team Files Tab, here is the link to the store: https://ktforms.com/store/rshla

As always, this is NOT the players spirit pack items, there will be a mandatory spirit pack that players will get when they make the program in the spring, and they will be required to wear those items.

These are just extra items that may be purchased for fans of Riverside Lacrosse to wear in the stands and show their Ram Spirit, they are not mandatory, nor does buying them guarantee a spot in the program.

Looking forward to a fun November of Riverside Lacrosse as we wrap up the 2018 Fall Season!

Oakton Turkey Shootout Reminder

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

The Turkey Shootout Admin has extended the registration without late fee until 11/7. Reminder that we treat this tournament as the culminating fall event for Riverside Lacrosse. As of now we only have 12 players signed up. There is a very long waitlist to play on this day. Without a roster of 20 players we are at a risk of having our team dropped from the tournament. Please spread the word and remind your teammates to sign up ASAP.

As stated before, we would like all returning Varsity Players (ended the season on Varsity), and/or 11th and 12th grade players to sign up to play. Please click on this link for Player Registration.

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Players, with the later practice time, please use your time wisely after school. Take a break, and then use the remaining time to work on your homework. Your reward will be a chance to play lacrosse with your teammates afterward.

  • The team store does in fact include our custom team gloves along with custom arm pads (three different styles). We have changed companies to insure better service this year, as well as chose a new style glove and design. We also added top of the line customizable Rome Shoulder pads. Everything on the store is marked down greatly for us, and is very high quality gear. We will need a minimum of 12 orders to insure processing and lock in the discount. The equipment will be delivered to your home.

Please Note: Purchasing this equipment is NOT MANDATORY. Secondly, purchasing this equipment WILL NOT guarantee a place in the program for this spring.

Important Lifting Time Changes

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Due to an overwhelming number of teams and athletes that are scheduled to be in the weight room at the same time, we have decided to move our weight room days to help maximize the efficiency of our workouts.

Beginning Monday 9/24, we will be lifting every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning from 7-8am.

I have made the change to the original schedule below.

The coaches are extremely excited about the off season starting up. Time to build our foundation for the 2019 season. Thank you for your understanding.

3 Important Reminders

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Hope everyone is off to a great start to the school year. The players in the VEL have been playing hard and representing the program proudly.

A couple of quick reminders of things coming up:

  • Lifting begins next week, Monday 9/24 @ 7:00am sharp. May be a good idea to be here a few minutes earlier then 7am. We will be finished by 8:00am. Please come with your cell phone fully charged, as you will be using them to access your program. It is time to change our mindset and become as physically and mentally strong as possible.
    •  Please bring items to shower with if you will not be going home. You will have plenty of time to shower, get ready for the day, meet with a teacher, and get to class. Successful people get up early, and dominate the day!
  • In order to participate, paperwork needs to be completed and turned in. If you have a question about paperwork, please check with Coach Worek or the Athletic Office. Everything can be found on Riversiderams.net under “Required Forms for Participation”.
  • Ashburn Youth Clinics will also be next week. Tuesday and Thursday evening. Times will be coming soon. All returning players grades 10-12 are welcome and urged to come participate. Seniors will be in contact along with Coach Ash.

If you have any questions please come see Coach Worek or Coach Burke.

Back to School Reminders

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope you all are excited about starting a new school year and about building toward the 2019 Lacrosse Season! The coaches could not be more excited about working with this fantastic group this year. We are going to work hard, see the results of our work, and have a blast doing so!  A couple of quick things that we wanted to get out to you today.

  1. We will be having a meeting for ALL interested in playing Boys Lacrosse this year on Thursday 8/30. We will meet in the Weight Room @ 4:10pm. If you are a Fall Sport Athlete please let your coach know that you will be attending the meeting and that you may be 5 min late to practice. I have spoken with those coaches and they are good with it; however, YOU need to communicate with them.
  2. Those who checked out Riverside Helmets for summer ball, please turn them into Coach Worek no later than Wednesday 8/29. Find me in my office or the main gym. Those helmets need to be sent out for reconditioning.
  3. VEL sign up. If you have not done so already, please sign up for the VEL Fall League. I have spoken with the football staff and they have expressed that they are willing to work with us once the schedule comes out and we can discuss it further. Again, you as a player, need to communicate
  • http://virginia-elite-lacrosse.com/  (Please choose the appropriate Varsity or JV button)
    • We would like all returning Varsity Players and/or 11th and 12th graders to sign up for the Riverside Varsity team.
    • We would like remaining 9th and 10th graders to sign up for the Riverside JV Team.
    • Be aware that after September 1st there will be a $20 Late Fee to sign up.

                   4. As we start the school year, please remember that you are representing the Riverside Lacrosse program in everything that you do. When you wear our gear people know you. We will be the most respectful, hard working, and positive leaders in the building. That is the expectation and standard set by those before you. Being a Riverside Lacrosse player is special.

We will finalize the Fall workout/Green Day Schedule this weekend and have that out to you all. Nothing will be starting until the Week of September 24th (last week in September). I will say, we have purchased an amazing workout program that will allow players to track their progress online and we will be stronger and tougher going into this season than ever before!

Go Rams, ALL IN!

2018 Fall VEL League Sign Up

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

We hope that you have had a fantastic summer of spending time with your families, relaxing, and playing a little lacrosse!

Now it is time to register for the VEL Lacrosse Fall League. This league is very well organized and extremely competitive. Playing against top level competition will help our entire program grow. To sign up please follow the link below.

http://virginia-elite-lacrosse.com/  (Please choose the appropriate Varsity or JV button)

*Note:

We would like all returning Varsity Players and/or 11th and 12th graders to sign up for the Riverside Varsity team.

  • We would like remaining 9th and 10th graders to sign up for the Riverside JV Team.

  • Be aware that after September 1st there will be a $20 Late Fee to sign up.

Tryouts for the Spring teams will begin on February 18th, 2019. We make all decisions for spring teams at that time.

Go Rams! ALL IN!

-Coach Worek
