Welcome back to school. Hope your first week was a great one. 

There will be a very important "Welcome Back Interest Meeting" for all those interested in playing Boys Lacrosse this spring. The meeting will be Wednesday 8/30 at 4:10pm in rm1130. It is the room across from the cafeteria. This is a great way for the Freshmen players to meet coaches and get information. 

We will be covering VEL sign up and information (Many players have not signed up yet and need to do so). We will cover our fall offseason plan. We will discuss our schedule. We will discuss state championship ring distribution. As well as other topics... 

The meeting will last 15-20 minutes. 

Please come see Coach Worek or Coach Burke if you can not attend.

We hope that you are having a fantastic summer with family and friends. I am sure many of you have been playing lacrosse this summer and we are looking forward to seeing all of the hard work you have put in to improve your game. For those playing fall sports, good luck, and we hope you have a great season!

Couple of things going on in the next few weeks:

State Championship T-Shirts: For those who dressed for the state championship game. We have T-Shirts for you. Please come by Coach Worek’s Office to pick them up (dates and times listed below). After we pass these out to the players, we will open an online store for everyone to purchase State Championship apparel. I will send out information on that in a couple of weeks.

Custom Team Gloves: After a long process for those who ordered team gloves, the correct gloves are finally in. They will be delivered to the school by the company representative tomorrow 8/7 at 11:00am. You can pick them up during the times listed below. We will be opening a new glove order this fall as well for those players that did not order a pair last year and wish to. Information will be given about that process in the future.

State Championship Rings:

Reminder if you have no submitted your order form for your State Championship Ring, you need to do so as soon as possible. We would like all the rings to be delivered at the same time. Please contact Coach Worek with any questions and we will point you in the right direction. 

VEL League Sign Ups:

Rams, it is time to register for the VEL Lacrosse Fall League. This league is very well organized and extremely competitive. Playing against top level competition will help our entire program grow. To sign up please follow the link below.

*Note:

• We would like all returning Varsity Players and/or 11^th and 12^th graders to sign up for the Riverside Varsity Team.
• We would like remaining 9^th and 10^th graders to sign up for the Riverside JV Team.
• Be aware that after September 1^st there will be a $20 Late Fee to sign up.

We feel that splitting the teams this way will optimize each players’ experience and allow them to grow their skills with quality repetitions. Please also note, that playing in this VEL league in no way indicates which team you will be on during the spring season, nor does it solidify a spot in the program. This league is a way for you to improve your game as a player, and do so by having fun with your Riverside Ram teammates.

Tryouts for the Spring teams will be February 19^th 2018. We make all decisions for spring teams at that time.

This has been an incredible season so far. The Varsity team is 18-0, Regular Season Conference Champions, Conference Tournament Champions, 4A North Region Champions. We are now in the last week of the season, “State Week”! This week’s times and locations will be subject to change to do the nature of the week. As of now we have the late practice times for the week.

Regarding logistics for the second half of the week, we will have a clearer picture of the way things will go after Tuesdays State Semi Final. I will send a new email out Wednesday morning with all information.

Sunday (Today) 6/4 – Boys Lacrosse Banquet in the Cafeteria. Players please wear shirts and ties. The banquet begins at 4pm.

Monday 6/5 – Practice 6-8pm. (Practice Turf)

Tuesday 6/6 -  State Semi Final Game vs. Midlothian HS. Game time is 7:30pm @ Home.

Thank you for your patience with tonight postponed game. The athletic department tried their best for us to get the game in, however the weather did not cooperate. Our game vs. Loudoun Valley has been rescheduled for tomorrow 5/19 @ 5:30 in the Stadium. 

Volunteers (Clock, Announcer, Music, Film, Ticket takers, Concessions) please plan to arrive no later then 5:00pm to help. 

Players, Please meet in the locker room by 4:15pm. We will still be wearing our white game shorts. As of now we are not planning on having a team meal. Please pack a little snack (peanut butter/jelly, granola bars, etc...) for your self to have after school, we do not want a full meal in our stomachs and then play an hour later in the heat. Be sure to stay hydrated and focused.  

Lets try our best to pack the stands and make it a great night for the Rams. Playoff enthusiasm!

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Welcome to the playoffs! First, congratulations are in order. Our JV lacrosse team finished their 2017 campaign going 13-1 with their only loss being a tough Dominion JV team. However, during the rematch, our JV Rams came out on top! Awesome Season. Our Varsity ended the regular season at a perfect 14-0.

We now begin the Post Season. Our record is 0-0, and we excited about the challenges ahead. To survive and advance each game, it will take a great “ALL IN” effort from everyone in the program. Balancing the end of the school year and the intense playoff schedule will be difficult. Please try your best to plan ahead with your school work and other commitments.

Lastly, in looking ahead. We will be practicing Saturday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend. Both practices will be finished by Noon which will give you time for your cookouts and family time. This is one of those special things that gets to happen when you advance deep into the playoffs, similar to a football team practicing on Thanksgiving Day. We should feel proud to have achieved that goal. Those two practices are extremely important. The Regional Semi-Final game is to be played on Tuesday May 30^th (the day after Memorial Day). We will most likely be playing Dominion or Freedom for the opportunity to advance to the State Tournament. Please plan accordingly.

We would like to share with you some playoff information as we get it. Here is what we have as of now. Please remember these are subject to change with weather and other situations.

Conference West Tournament:

We will be the #1 seed in the conference tournament. This gives us home field advantage, first round bye, and an automatic bid to the Northern Region Tournament.

Conference Semi Final – Thursday 5/18 @ Riverside HS. Time TBA

Conference Final – Monday 5/22 @ Top Seed. Time TBA

4A Northern Region Tournament:

Regardless of what the outcome of the Conference Tournament is. We are guaranteed a spot in the Region Tournament. The top two teams from the Dulles West, Dulles East, and Evergreen Conferences (6 Teams) will be competing in the Northern Region Tournament. The two teams that reach the Region Final will represent the region in the State Tournament.

Region First Round – Thursday May 25^th @ Top Seed. Time TBA

Region Semi Final – Tuesday May 30^th @ Top Seed. Time TBA

Region Final – Thursday June 1^st @ Top Seed. Time TBA

4A State Tournament:

The top two teams from the Northern Region Tournament will enter the State Tournament.

State Semi-Final – Tuesday or Wednesday, June 6^th or 7^th @ Top Seed.

State Final – Saturday June 10^th @ Roanoke College.

Congratulations are in order to the players for securing the Regular Season Dulles West Conference Championship. This does a few things for our program, it gives us the #1 Seed for the conference, a first round bye in the conference tournament, secures home field advantage for the conference tournament, and automatically qualifies us for the Northern Region tournament regards of the outcome of the conference tournament. 

Due to many situations we have decided to give the players off today from practice. They have earned a break and we have 9 days until we play Rock Ridge. We will see you all tomorrow at 4pm. 

I will send an updated playoff schedule out by the end of the week once I gather more information. 

We have also settled on a banquet date. The end of the year program banquet will be Sunday, June 4th @ 4pm in the Riverside cafeteria . Players are expected to wear game day attire to celebrate a great season!

There has been a slight change to today’s plan, again due to the field conditions. Four soccer games are to now to be played this evening (if the turf is clear). Therefore, we will practice 4-5pm on the practice turf, and then collect cards. We should be finished today by 5:30pm.

We will practice from 4-6pm (Film, Weightroom, Stick Work, etc.. ) Game make up dates/times have not been decided yet. However please be prepared to play the Brentsville game this Saturday. Potential game times being JV @10:30am and Varsity @ 12:00pm both at home in the stadium. We will inform you as soon as we know for sure.

We hope you all are staying warm, safe and enjoying your days off from school. We just wanted to update you all on the status for the rest of the week. We have said it before, but flexibility will be key here.

Thursday 3/16 – We have the potential of playing our Brentsville games at home due to our turf fields. A bunch of things need to align to have this happen (fields being cleared, transportation, officials, etc.) but it is a possibility. Therefore, please be prepared to both play a game (JV and Varsity) as well as practice. We will have times and locations out to you as soon as possible.

• Shirts and Ties to school, assuming that it will still be a game day.
• Bring clothes to be able to practice outside or inside.
• Bring all spirit pack items.

Thank you to all of the parents for attending the Parent meeting last night it was a great turnout. Please remember to sign up to volunteer if you can!

As stated last night, we have an Online Store that is open now through Cheers Sports. This is no mandatory gear, just items that you may wish to purchase. The team game socks are included in the store if you would like extra pairs. All players have at least 1 pair now of game socks. Please refer to the Spring 2017 Flyer under the “Team Files” tab. The team store will close on 3/9. 

Extra Issued Spirit Gear goes through a different vendor, I will be handing out an order form to the players for those items if they wish to purchase more.

Also, reminder that players should be seated in the Aux Gym at 5pm today 3/1,  for our 1^st fundraiser. We will practice from 6-8 today regardless of weather. Please be sure to have shoes to practice indoors as well as outdoors.

Greeting Riverside Lacrosse,

Here is the schedule for the week. Please note that we have the late time slot this week. We will be rotating times weekly this year.

Monday 2/27 – Practice 6-8pm (Stadium)

Tuesday 2/28 – Picture Day/Impact Testing. Please report to the locker room by 4:15. We should be finished by 6pm.

• Spring Parent Meeting is at 7pm. We will be covering a ton of information regarding the program, answering questions, and signing up for volunteer positions.
• Please bring check books as there will be many things that you may wish to purchase. Team Meals, Lanyards, etc..

Wednesday 3/1 – Practice 6-8pm (Stadium)

• We will be conducting our first fundraiser. Please be seated in the AUX GYM at 5:00pm.

Thursday 3/2 – Practice 6-8pm (Stadium)

Friday 3/3 – Varsity Scrimmage @ St. Albans School. Game time is 4:00pm. NO JV PRACTICE.

• Varsity Players/Managers/Trainers/ and a select JV Players will be dismissed at 1:45pm. Please communicate with your teachers.
• Bus leaves no later than 2pm.

Saturday 3/4 – Practice 8-10am (Practice Turf).

• After practice we will be completing our second fundraiser. We will be selling our cards in our Blitz Day. All players are required to participate. Players should be finished no later than 3pm.
• Plan to shower post practice to look good to sell.
• Please bring Khaki Shorts/Pants to wear with your jersey to sell cards.

Riverside Lacrosse Family,

Congratulations to all players that have been selected for this year’s program. Just a couple of quick notes to be aware of.

• If you have not done so already, please be sure to turn in the LCPS Participation Fee to the athletic office ASAP.

• Tuesday 2/28 is pictures day. All players have been give picture forms.

• Tuesday 2/28 is also our Spring Boys Lacrosse Parents Meeting. The meeting begins at 7pm in the Main Gym.

  • We will discuss Volunteer sign ups

  • You will also be able to pay for Team Meals / Player Lanyards as well.

    • Remember to bring your check books if you wish to purchase these.

  • Information about the online team store for fans/parents will be given out as well.

• Players have been given an eTeamSponsor fundraiser sheet. Please help them fill it out and have them returned to Coach Worek by 2/27.

• Saturday 3/4 is our Blitz Day Card Fundraiser. Players will be selling cards after practice until around 3:00pm. All players are required to participate, please plan accordingly.

• Players have been given their spirit packs. Please have checks to the coaches as soon as possible. If anyone has an issue with payment, please speak with Coach Worek.

  • $130 for Varsity

  • $110 for JV

  • Please make checks out to “Riverside Lacrosse”.

  • Each player received (sweat shirt, sweat pants, practice shorts, Short sleeve shooting shirt, Long Sleeve shooting shirt, game socks, White Nike Game shorts (Varsity), Decals (Varsity), mouthpiece, and all game apparel laundry service)

We have made it! Welcome to the 2017 season. The coaching staff could not be more excited. Looks like it will be a great week to kick off the season. Here is your schedule for the week:

Monday 2/20 - Tryout 1 : 9-11am Turf Practice Field. Tryout 2: 1-3pm Turf Practice Field

• Please Note that players will not be leaving school between practices. Please pack a lunch. We will have meetings.

Now it is time to register for the VEL Lacrosse Fall League. This league is very well organized and extremely competitive. Playing against top level competition will help our entire program grow. To sign up please follow the link below.

*Note:

We would like all returning Varsity Players and/or 11^th and 12^th graders to sign up for the Riverside Varsity team.

• We would like remaining 9^th and 10^th graders to sign up for the Riverside JV Team.
• Be aware that after September 1^st there will be a $20 Late Fee to sign up.

We feel that splitting the teams this way will optimize each players’ experience and allow them to grow their skills with quality repetitions. Please also note, that playing in this VEL league in no way indicates which team you will be on during the spring season, nor does it solidify a spot in the program. This league is a way for you to improve your game as a player, and do so by having fun with your Riverside Ram teammates.

Tryouts for the Spring teams will be February 20^th 2017. We make all decisions for spring teams at that time.

• Tonight we will be finalizing the rosters. Please plan on staying a bit longer than normal. We will be meeting with each player. We will try and be finished no later than 7pm.
• For those players that make the program. Practice Tomorrow 2/23 will be from 5-8pm. This was a change that need to be made from a bunch of uncontrollable situations.
  • Players will report at 5pm to the locker room. We will be handling a bunch of logistical things that need to be taken care of at the beginning of each season. Then we will practice from 6-8pm in the Stadium 
• Friday 2/24 will still be 4-6pm.
• Saturday 2/25 will still be 8-10am.

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

As we are in the middle of our winter training, we wanted to send you a couple of reminders.

• We are still lifting and running on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7am, Wednesday evenings we hold Green Day training sessions from 5:30-7pm in the Stadium (weather permitting), and Mondays from 4-5pm we have stick work on the practice turf (weather permitting).Turnouts have been fantastic! Lets keep it up!
• Please be sure that you have all of your paperwork turned in. This needs to be done ASAP, and needs to be a top priority. All of the forms to participate can be found on www.riversiderams.net . If you have questions regarding forms, please ask the athletic office.

We also would like to give you all some dates and times to mark on your calendars, being that we are a month out from the beginning of the 2017 campaign:

Important Dates:

• There will be an extremely important players meeting Wednesday 2/8 at 4pm in the aux gym. All Players planning on trying out need to plan on attending. Tryout information and other important topics will be covered. 
• This program considers Friday 2/17 the first day of lacrosse. It is the expectation that all players wishing to try out are in attendance. We will be handing out equipment, collecting paperwork, conditioning, assigning lockers and setting up the fields. We will go from 4pm to 6pm on Friday 2/17. Please bring cleats and indoor shoes. Also, we will be going outdoors so please bring proper clothing to be outside in February. Meet in the Aux Gym at 4pm. 
• Tryouts Begin Monday 2/20!
  • Monday 2/20 we will have 2 tryouts. 9-11am and 1-3pm, both practice will be on the practice turf. Players will meet in the locker room.
  • Be sure to have full sweats with you.
  • Players will not be permitted to leave school that day. Please bring a lunch to eat between practices.
• The remainder of tryout week, 2/21-2/24, Practice will be from 4pm-6pm (practice turf).
• Lastly, for those players that make the team, our Fundraiser Blitz Day is Saturday, March 4^th.  
  • All players in the program are required to be there.
  • Blitz Day usually runs until around 3pm. Please Plan accordingly.

Due to the driving rain outside and high winds, the stick work session for today 1/23 is canceled. We felt as though the weather had a chance to clear up some as the day progressed, unfortunately that did not happen. We will see you tomorrow morning at 7am for lifting/conditioning!

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

As we approach the Fall Brawl, we would like to make sure our athletes are well fed and well hydrated.  The parents need nourishment too.  So, the list below is what we need to make it an enjoyable day. Please email Matt Charske at charskem@yahoo.com with the items that you are bringing.  He will compile a list of items and emails.  That way, the morning of the tournament, we will be prepared and can make sure to meet up and share a site with both Riverside teams.  

Riverside 1 (grey) has the first game at 8:00 against McLean.  Riverside 2 (Purple) has the first game at 9:00 against Battlefield.  Riverside 1 will all be on field 6 and Riverside 2 will all be on field 7 all day.

The final field map will be published by the end of the day today (Thursday).  Obviously, we want to set up camp at a place with easy access to field 6 and 7.

Two dozen Donuts

Two dozen Bagels

Four cookie batches
Five Sandwich platters.

Due to many different scenarios the Green Day scheduled for Friday 11/18 is canceled. We will still be holding our green day on Thursday 11/17.

Players playing in the Fall Brawl please make sure you get a good night sleep. Please be at the field, ready to go, at least 30 minutes prior to your first game. You will receive an email today from the Fall Brawl letting you know some important information for the tournament to include schedules and field locations.   Please be sure to bring warm clothing to wear in between games. Be sure to check the weather and be prepared. You will be there all day, bring food or money, a chair, blankets and plenty of water. Hopefully we will have a "Riverside Tent City" set up as we did last year!

This tournament is supposed to be fun. That is the way we are going to approach the weekend, everyone in the Riverside Lacrosse Family positively supporting each other.

Here is our Winter (Jan/Feb) off season training opportunities. Again, these are opportunities that you have to better yourself as a lacrosse player and athlete. They are not mandatory but highly encouraged to put make yourself the best player possible come lacrosse tryouts on Feb. 20^th. Conditioning and Lacrosse skill will be key come the week of tryouts, as that week will be very high spirited.

As always, players must have all required paperwork turned in to participate if workouts. Paperwork can be found on www.Riversiderams.net under “required forms for participation”.

Please remember that we are training in January and February. Weather will be cold, you must be dressed appropriately to be allowed to participate (sweat shirts and sweat pants).

Please note this is not the mandatory players spirit pack that players will be receiving in the spring, this is just extra Under Armour gear for you to purchase and own. These items could make for some great gifts for the upcoming Holiday Season!
