Riverside Girls Lacrosse Weekend Update

Team,

I just heard a weatherman say that all the rain we are having is only fair since we have had such a mild winter/spring otherwise?!?  Where has this guy been?  Apparently not at Riverside where I think we have had 1 or 2 dry AND warm games THUS far and occasionally the rain has been sidewise with 70 mph winds...

We are making the best of the wet weather, training inside Wednesday adding strength training, Thursday on the turf as we worked in the only rainless period of the day(SO lucky) and now this afternoon we are moving INSIDE from 4pm to 6pm.  We made this schedule adjustment yesterday morning so everyone has had plenty of notice.

Looking ahead to tomorrow morning, we will plan to go outside in the stadium from 8am to 10am, but ask that all players come prepared with running shoes and clothes for both indoors and outside.

The calendar has been adjusted to add our Regional Tournament Semi Final Game on Tuesday at home against George Mason.  A win on Tuesday will send us to the Region Finals on Friday May 25th and will guarantee us entry in the state tournament.  We will cross this bridge as it comes, one game at a time, but for your planning purposes the state tournament dates are June 1/2(quarter finals), June 5th(semi finals) and June 9th State Championship.

PROM: We know that everyone attending the prom will have a great time celebrating this awesome high school event with friends.  We know that having fun at the prom can and will involve SMART decisions on the part of every athlete and that a Riverside Girls Lacrosse player ALWAYS holds themselves to the highest standard in social situations.  Have fun, be yourselves, stay safe and send pictures!

Riverside Girls Lacrosse Weekly Update: Week of May 7th

Team,

It is impossible to believe that we will play our final regular season game of 2018 tomorrow!  No idea where the time went this spring, but we are excited for some great lacrosse weather FINALLY as we head into the next phase of Season 3!

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Monday:

  • ADDITIONAL PRE GAME WALK THRU MONDAY MORNING(PLEASE READ) :

ATTACK:  7:45AM TO 8:15AM

DEFENSE:  8:15AM TO 8:45AM

MIDFIELD:  7:45AM TO 8:45AM

This is a walk through and on field chalk talk to go over a couple simple points for the George Mason game, you will NOT need a shower after for your planning purposes, you will want training gear for comfort and running shoes to be on the turf but this is a WALK THROUGH

  • AWAY v George Mason, JV and Varsity, bus departs at 4:15pm, uniform will be red jersey/white skirt/blue shooters

4:15pm is a tight turn around following school ending at 4:03pm.  Players will need to get to the training room quickly, dress and plan to eat on the bus.

Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday:   early spot this week for team training, 4:15pm to 6pm on the practice turf.

Thursday:  Team Training 6:45am to 8am on the practice turf

Saturday:  TBD 8am to 10am, or 10am to 12pm, pending decision from Athletic Dept.  There is an event at home and we need to adjust.  Also may consider the Color Run as a team.

Energy Bus Notes continue to be a big hit with the team and I think we received a record number for the Dominion Game!  It is awesome to have parents writing notes for players that are not their own!  Even dogs are getting into the game and sending messages to their favorite players!  Keep them coming for tomorrow!  I just ask that you help me help you by working with this process:

  • In my home mailbox by midnight tonight
  • In my school mailbox, drop off to main office by 2pm tomorrow
  • to my email by noon tomorrow so we can have all notes printed

Big game tomorrow night team!  Let's focus on this final regular season game and come out with a great finish!

Riverside Girls Lacrosse Senior Night!

Our hearts are full after a wonderful Senior Night for our 4 amazing Seniors, Jessica Kirk, Marissa Klein, Meghna Dawar and Elise Kim.  The night started out with a beautiful presentation of flowers for the players and their moms as we welcomed our senior families to the midfield in a pregame ceremony that featured personal messages from the team.  Following the game, the seniors and the entire varsity team were treated to a desert bar and gift presentation that was beyond anything we could have ever imagined.  Mrs Gabaldon and Mrs Reed hit the ball out of the park with personalized gifts, balloons, banners, and desserts of every kind.  The team also presented our seniors with gift baskets they created with all their favorite snacks so that each senior could take a little "reminder" of our team along to college.  It was an incredible celebration of 4 exceptional young women and we are so thankful for Mrs Reed and Mrs Gabaldon!  An event of this magnitude takes months to plan and countless hours of coordinating and thoughtfulness; we appreciate YOU ladies more than we could ever express!  We also know that there were many bakers and contributors last night and we never want to forget anyone in our appreciation.  Thank you ALL!

MOMS, we were looking forward to giving you a special night for all you do for us and with the reschedule of Senior Night, we ended up packing ALOT into last night!   We hope you all enjoyed the messages from your biggest fans, your daughters!  If anyone needs a copy of the roster with messages on the back, please let me know and I can send it right to you.

The RAMS are proving to be a team that knows how to fight back and show resilience under pressure.  This is the 2nd game we have found ourselves down 3-0 and needed to dig in and fight back from a slow start.  While it may make our fans in the stands nervous, the coaching team is thankful for the opportunity to learn and execute well in all circumstances.  We do not necessarily love a slow start:), but we appreciate the energy and GRIT that the team is showing in overcoming a deficit and closing the game out strong in the end.

This week we will focus on training on tightening up our defensive package, RIDE and offensive looks; ultimately looking to be dangerous no matter which one of our 12 players on the field has the ball.  We have incredible talent on this roster, and yet we are stronger as a team than any one of us could ever be individually.  Our goal on Friday is to be so deep and skilled across the entire team that we are unbreakable.  The players are working hard and we appreciate their continued dedication to the team and this season, may it continue long into JUNE:)

Friday we travel to Dominion, currently laying up at #1 in our region(4A Region C), 5-0 record in region play.  We are #2 in the region with a 4-0 record so far in region play.  The final 2 games of the season, Friday against Dominion and Monday against George Mason will set the table for the regional tournament which begins May 15th.  Please note there is NO conference tournament this year.

Training today is 6:50pm to 7:50pm on the practice turf.

Training Thursday is 6:45am-8am on the practice turf, pregame for Dominion.

Thank you AGAIN to Mrs Gabaldon and Mrs Reed!  You are absolutely amazing!

Riverside Girls Lacrosse GAME DAY!

Varsity Team,

Thank goodness the cold doesn't bother us anymore after 7 months of winter weather and freezing temperatures!  Tonight will be just another day in the cold windy life for our RAMS as we take the field against a skilled Loudoun Valley team.  We are going to need our AWESOME fan base at our back tonight as we look to extend our winning streak in this 3 game week!  Bundle up and come on out!

NOTE:  Tomorrow morning I have to have the 3rd surgery in a really enjoyable series of eye surgeries...insert sarcasm here...and I will be out for the day.  Coach Madi has the reins and will handle training in my absence.  I will be back on the scene Saturday as we prep for another big 3 game week with Senior Night on Tuesday at home and travel to Patriot.

Big one tonight Team, let's get fired UP, play as a TEAM and represent Riverside Girls Lacrosse with pride!

FLEXIBILITY WINS the DAY!

Good morning,

We are clearly dealing with a big weather event for today and potentially tomorrow/Thursday.  We need to be flexible and prepared for anything.  As of this morning, we are heading to school and the home opener is ON.  However, as we look at the predicted weather for this afternoon and evening, there is obviously question about evening activities being cancelled.  We will keep you updated as we receive additional information.  LCPS will determine the fate of our game; if they choose to shut down after school/evening activities then we are cancelled.

Looking ahead: we will need to remain flexible as we look at the balance of the week.  Wednesday we will plan to train as scheduled unless weather dictates otherwise.  Thursday we face a new opponent in Patriot High School and there is potential that if school is closed tomorrow, we would have NO training prior to this game.  While this is not an optimal situation, we need to remain mature, flexible and dedicated to putting a quality product on the field regardless of missed training.

Here is our motto this week:  FLEXIBILITY wins the DAY.  Lets embrace that spirit and work together to fight through whatever challenges the weather may bring our way.

Riverside GIRLS Lacrosse: Weekly Update March 18th

Weekly Update Coming at YOU!

Riverside Lacrosse: The week ahead, and a quick look back!

Alrighty RAM Fam, here we go!  Huge week ahead as we ramp UP to Spring Break!

Hopefully we are all thawed out after a COLD week and a chilly season opener on the frozen tundra at Potomac Falls on Friday night!  Proud of you for a solid win against the reigning 5A State Champions and a strong win for our JV Team.  We had a lot of very bright spots and several areas that we will continue to focus on.  The great news is that we have 3 very competitive games/scrimmages behind us as we head into this week and our home opener on Tuesday against Tuscarora and then an unknown opponent in Patriot High School.  We will be ready for whatever comes our way!

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Monday:  Team Training on the practice turf, 4:15 - 6pm

Tuesday: SEASON HOME OPENER JV 6pm, Varsity 7pm vs. Tuscarora

Wednesday: Team Training on the practice turf, 4:15 - 6pm

Thursday: HOME GAME JV 6pm, Varsity 7pm vs. Patriot High School

Friday: Varsity TEAM event

TEAM HOUSEKEEPING:

  • MEALS:  Reminder that our wonderful Mrs Lutz and Mrs Kim need an email from you if there is any change to your Potbelly order.
  • TEAM STORE:  Our team store turns into a pumpkin at midnight TONIGHT, so please be sure that you complete the order process prior to the clock striking 12!  The white long sleeve is the ONE mandatory item, this is our game day shooter shirt.
  • SPRING BREAK:  We reward our program for hard work and commitment through a long preseason by giving our players and families time to relax over Spring Break.  We have seen the effects of a scheduled break on our players and feel confident that this time off allows our players to go the distance for the entire season.  Reset, refuel and add some conditioning and strength "activities" to each day as you relax:)
  • PHOTOS:  Parents, if you are snapping pictures of the team, PLEASE send them to me!  We have Mr Wharton covering alot of our games, but we can use all the photos we can get for several projects we have going on.  If it is easier for me to send you a thumb drive, please let me know and I will get it done.

Full speed ahead , SEASON HOME OPENER is HERE!

Riverside Girls Lacrosse Weekly Update: Week of March 5th

RAMS,

We are headed into SCRIMMAGE Week 2018!  Very exciting as we prep for the first opportunities to take the field as a team this season; and much work to be done between now and Wednesday.  We lost training this Friday/Saturday and we are doubling down our training efforts Monday and Tuesday.  This is a week that we will use every scheduled training minute that we have available.

Training Monday/Tuesday is on the practice turf right after school 4:15pm until 6pm.  Preparation is key: always come with cleats/running shoes/layers/reversible pinnie.  Lack of preparation will get you a direct invite to After School Club on Thursday.

Wednesday: Scrimmages vs Oakton at HOME

Thursday: Team Training 6:30am-8am STADIUM

Friday:  Scrimmages vs Stone Bridge AWAY

Saturday:  VARSITY Team Training 8am-10am STADIUM

**PLEASE NOTE**  In an effort to support the Riverside High School attendance policy, we will be holding "AFTER SCHOOL CLUB" on Thursdays at 4:15pm for all players who are late to school/unexcused during the week.  This will be a conditioning session.  Players, preserve your one afternoon without training by getting to school on time!

Team Store:  Look for the link in the next day.  We have 2 team stores with a wide variety of products.

gRAMparents GEAR:  The order form for the adorable gRAMparent tshirts is uploaded to our site.  Please contact Mrs. Gabaldon directly with questions/order.  Let's make sure that all of our most special fans have this awesome gear, thank you Mrs Gabaldon!

Lanyards:  Once again, Mrs Connolly crushes the lanyard game for our parents and players!  Please let us know if you need assistance ordering the lanyard.  Details are also available on the site.  Thanks so much Mrs Connolly!

Game Day Meals:  Mrs Lutz and Mrs Kim have put a lot of elbow grease behind this project and players will have the opportunity to select exactly what they want and for which games they would like to order a meal.

Enjoy your Sunday and be rested and ready to roll this week!

Last week we kicked off our SPEED/POWER Series and we feel like we are off to a solid start with some sport specific targeted training in the weight room and the gym.  Reminder that this is the best preparation for the season and there is no cost to participate, looking forward to seeing the entire program in attendance.

We are back in action this week on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:45am for SPEED/POWER and also Thursday for Green Day in the STADIUM at 4:15 until 6pm.

TRYOUT UPDATE:  We handed out the tryout schedule at our interest meeting last Thursday.  The doc is also posted on our Riversiderams site.  PLEASE note one small time adjustment to DAY ONE:  our sessions will be 8am to 10am and 12pm to 3pm.  We apologize for the slight change, but we are working with the Athletic Department as they schedule tryouts across all spring sports.

How will you choose to #CONNECT with us this week?

Riverside Girls Lacrosse SPEED/POWER Starts TOMORROW 6:45am!

Riverside Girls Lacrosse,

We are just about 6 weeks away from Tryout 2018!  This is a very exciting year for our program from a growth perspective as we welcome a strong 2021 class to our program.  Preseason training is a critical ingredient for a successful program; the 6 weeks leading up to tryouts allow players to work together and CONNECT while building strength, speed and sport specific agility skills.  Over the next 6 weeks, our coaching staff will conduct SPEED/POWER Training for the entire program on Tuesday/Thursday mornings from 6:45am to 8am at Riverside. We encourage all players that are planning to tryout for our 2018 JV and Varsity Teams to commit to preseason training and get stronger and faster TOGETHER.

FOR EACH SESSION:  All players should report to the Riverside Weight Room in training gear wearing running shoes and prepared for indoor/outdoor activities with layers.  Please be sure to eat something for breakfast prior to training.  The PE Locker Room will be open to all players following training so they can shower prior to school.

COST:  ZERO

WEATHER/SCHOOL CLOSING/DELAY:  This seems to be a thing right now:)  If school is cancelled/delayed we will NOT have our morning session.  We will tweet and message through TeamSnap and Riversiderams.net if we are cancelled.

Tomorrow, Tuesday January 9th is our SPEED/POWER kick off.  We look forward to seeing EVERYONE at 6:45am.

Riverside Girls Lacrosse Weekly Update: PHASE II

The Holiday Break has been a BUSY time for our ambitious crew of RAMS!  In 2 short weeks you have hosted a youth clinic for 25 aspiring young lacrosse players, competed in BOX games, spent countless hours on the wall AND attended camps and clinics up and down the east coast...very proud of you!  As New Years Eve rolls in and we swap the calendar over to 2018, take some time to enjoy your family and friends and celebrate the New Year SAFELY.

WHAT'S UP NEXT:  We look forward to seeing everyone back at Riverside for the start of classes on January 2nd.  We have designed PHASE II to start on January 9th so that our student athletes have the first week to get back in the swing of academics.  PHASE II will be handled in house by our coaching team and will follow our regular speed/lift schedule on Tuesday/Thursday 6:45am to 8am for 6 weeks, January 9th through February 12th.  Please make note that Rierside gear is required for all sessions and we have a HARD start time at 6:45am, any late athletes cannot train.

ASHBURN LACROSSE:  We continue to love our relationship with Ashburn Youth Lacrosse and are excited to have an opportunity to participate in their Spring Tryouts for 2018.  We will need upperclassmen to volunteer for tryout sessions on the dates below.  We will give volunteer hours for this amazing chance to share the game.

  • January 20th:  12pm to 3pm
  • January 28th:  2pm to 5pm

Happy New Year and see you at BOX this weekend!
