While we all wait to see how many 3’s Michigan and Villanova make tonight, just want to remind everyone that basketball workouts will be held Tuesdays this spring starting April 3 at 4:10-5:55 pm in the main gym.  

Coach Branch will be leading the session tomorrow.

Cheer on Jason this Sunday - This year's DMVStream.com Nova Challenge: Sunday, March 18 @ Centreville High School.  Admission is $10 - this year's charity is Best Buddies, which supports students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

COME CHEER ON JASON ODOM IN THE NOVA CHALLENGE THIS SUNDAY! This year's DMVStream.com Nova Challenge on Sunday, March 18at Centreville High School.  Admission is $10 and this year's charity is Best Buddies, which supports students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. To date, we have raised over $8,000 for local charities in the four years of the event and hope to go over the $10,000 mark this year! This high school basketball event showcases the top boys basketball public school seniors from Loudoun, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, and Prince William in two all-star games.  Festivities begin at 2 pm as the Arlington/Alexandria team tips off against an all-star team from Fairfax County.  The three point and dunk contests follow at 4 pm, and the nightcap at 5 pm features Loudoun County vs. Prince William County. Come and join the festivities for a chance to see the area's top high school boys basketball players and raise money for a great charity!

Our banquet will be held at 5:45 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2018.  This is a reminder to turn in banquet meal money to the Barrett family by 5 pm Thursday.

It’s $15 per person.

Some changes have been made between the boys and girls programs.  Heres the updated schedule for this week:

Wednesday, 12/27 - Boys' JV & Fr at 8-10 am / Varsity at 8-10 am & 12:30-2 pm

Thursday, 12/28 - Boys' JV & Fr at 8-10 am / Varsity at 8-10 am & 12:30-2 pm

Friday, 12/29 - Boys' JV & Fr at 10-12 am / Varsity at 10 am to 1 pm

Saturday, 12/30 - JV & V at 9:45 am to 1:45 pm / Fr at Noon to 2 pm

Its a busy time of year.  We just received an update that the store items should be in by the end of next week.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  The embroidery department is a week behind with the holiday crunch.  As soon as the items arrive, we will distribute them

2017 RAMS BOYS’ BASKETBALL TRY-OUT INFORMATION

• All players are to start the first day of try-outs with their grade level.

• Try-Outs are for the student-athletes and coaching staff only.  Spectators not permitted.

• WEAR AN OLD T-SHIRT (write last name on back please) to EACH DAY OF TRY-OUTS or the BLUE/RED OFFSEASON PRACTICE JERSEY.

• Team practices start Thursday and run six days per week and some holiday times too.

• Report to Try-outs at the following times: (BE READY TO START ON TIME)  

  • Monday, November 6th (Teacher Workday)

    • Grades 10-12 at 5:30-8:00 pm (start in Main Gym)

    • Grade 9 - Report at 4:10 pm to the Athletic Hall to check-in then go to Belmont MS Gym until 6:30pm (pick-up at RVHS)

  • Tuesday, November 7th (Teacher Workday)

    • Grades 10-12 at 5:30-8:00 pm (start in Main Gym)

    • Grade 9 - Report at 4:10 pm in PE Hall to go to Belmont MS Gym until 6:30 pm (pick-up at RVHS)

  • Wednesday, November 8th

    • Fr to Belmont MS Gym at 4:20-6:30 pm (pick-up at RVHS)

    • Grades 10-12 at 6:15-8:45 pm (RVHS Main)

Get Prepared for Try-Outs with the Following Steps

1. Make sure you are in SOLID ACADEMIC STANDING & that ALL SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS ARE CURRENT!

2. Turn in ALL required paperwork to the athletic office (including physical form) ASAP.Student-athletes can only be cleared to try-out by the athletic office. You will NOT be permitted to try-out without it.

3. Fall sport athletes only need to submit a new emergency card.

4. COME TO TRY-OUTS IN SHAPE TO PERFORM.

5. Time commitment is 6 days per week until mid to late February.Includes many school vacation days.

   1. No Practice on following days around the Holidays: Wed., 11/22; Thurs., 11/23; 12/20-12/26

   2. All levels practice December 27, 28, 29, 30 and will play on January 2.

6. Basketball Skills: Be prepared to be evaluated in the following skill areas:

   1. Dribbling, passing, shooting

   2. Individual and team defensive skills

   3. Individual and team offensive skills

   4. Game situation play

   5. Intangibles make a difference: team player, hustle, desire, positive attitude, work ethic, & PERSEVERANCE

8. Remaining Week 1 Practice Schedule:

   1. Th / Fri, Nov 9 & 10 – Fr at 4:30-6:30 pm at Belmont 4-6:15 pm / JV & V at 6:15-8:45 pm in Main Gym

   2. Saturday, November 11 – All levels 10 am to 1 pm (includes lifting)

   3. Program Meeting for all players will take place after photos & impact testing on 11/14

9. Upon making a team, players are expected to make all practices and prioritize RVHS Basketball over any outside sport or other offseason training program.

10. Try-outs will be limited to the coaching staff and players only.

11. Players will be released on time for rides home.RVHS pick-up spot is at the circle behind the school by the outside main gym and athletic doors (near the turf practice field).
