This is our final week of the regular season and we have so much happening. It is going to be fantastic! We have our annual Boys vs Girls Meet on Wednesday, a Pasta Party on Thursday (if someone signs up to host!), the Independence Meet on Friday, and our Senior Parade and Senior Meet against Heritage on Saturday. This is going to be fantastic!

Rams,
What a great weekend! It is so much fun having the team together, swimming fast, having a great time, smiling and laughing…and swimming FAST. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to win swim meets too. Let’s keep doing it!
I challenged you all to make us work hard to create the LoCo Champs line-up. You delivered. You swam fast, dropped times, and Coach Keeton and I had to go through several scenarios before we could come up with what we believe to be an extremely strong team for next weekend. I’ll be distributing the line-up later today.
When I send it out, please keep it private. Do not share or discuss with other teams until I tell you that it is acceptable to do so. We’ve seen that other teams like to build their line-ups around ours and we do not want anyone to know what we have planned. We are going into LoCo Champs with a plan to win it. Let’s keep every advantage we have.
For Saturday’s meet, we will travel by bus together. The bus will leave Riverside at 8:00 am. If swimmers want to ride home with their parents after the meet and not take the bus, I need to be notified via email by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Here are some details about Saturday’s meet:
Location: Claude Moore Recreation Center
Time: Warm-ups begin at 8:40 am; Competition begins at 10:15 am
The meet is a USA-Swimming Observed Meet
Admission: $7.00 for Spectators
Programs: $3.00 per copy for sale at venue
We still need ONE volunteer for the meet – Stroke & Turn Official. Please volunteer!
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0a44aeae22aa8-loco#/
Thank you to the Iglesias family, Jill Sessions, Nicole Flannagan, and Vandana Oza for volunteering to time. You do not pay the admission fee. You have a meeting at 10:00 am on the day of the meet…and you get snacks!
This week is our last 3-day week of practice for the regular season. Next week, we’ll have our annual Boys vs Girls Meet, and all its fun, to wrap up the regular season.

Rams,
Happy New Year and welcome to the second half of the Riverside Swim regular season! We are in all-out sprint mode for the next three weeks with 4 dual meets and the LoCo Championship meet…and the Boys vs Girls meet. I’m glad that you are rested because you’re going to need the focus and energy to achieve our (and your) goals for the season.
On Friday, we travel to Manassas (Freedom Aquatic Center) to take on a very talented Patriot High School team. The entire team will travel together by bus to the meet. The bus will leave Riverside at 5:15 pm. If swimmers want to ride home with their parents after the meet and not take the bus, I need to be notified via email by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Swimmers, please bring your swim bags to school with you on Friday. You may leave them in my classroom for the day.
I will be placing an order from Panera for boxed lunches to be delivered for us to eat before we leave school. If you would like to place an order, please do so by 5pm on Wednesday. Here is the link to place your order. You can order as many sandwich boxed lunches and salad boxed lunches as you want. They are $15 each.
https://forms.gle/12cEkeo2BjhofHry5
I will send out the link for you to make payments once the school sets up the payment portal for me.
Parents, we still need a starter and 3 timers for Friday’s meet. Please sign up for this.

Rams,
It was another successful week for Riverside Swimming. We fought through a challenging meet, some illnesses, some mental doldrums, and some physical exhaustion and took care of business on Saturday. This week, we wrap up 2022 with a big meet against Briar Woods. It’s time to take them down.
We have three important practices this week to get ourselves ready for Saturday. Details. Details. Details. Focus on what you are doing throughout each practice. We need to create new habits, fine-tune skills, and push ourselves a little bit harder now to get the improvement that we want as the season progresses. For the next several weeks, it’s time to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” so that we can achieve our season goals.
Parents – Please sign up to volunteer for Saturday’s meet. We need a referee, a stroke and turn official and a timer.

I’ll be posting Saturday’s line-up soon.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and we’ll see you at the pool Monday.

Rams,
What a great start to the season! I gave you a goal and you crushed it! With 12 State Championship qualifying times, we are off to an amazing start. As promised, you earned OPTIONAL PRACTICES on December 27 and 28.
We have a big meet this week against Potomac Falls. We’ll be missing a few swimmers, so everyone is going to have to push a bit harder this week so that we can continue our success. Fortunately, we are going to get in a full week of practices this week so that you can focus on the details, build the good habits, and continue to build your strength and endurance.
Please remember to bring your equipment to every practice, and, as Coach Keeton pointed out last week, make sure you have the right equipment – fins that fit, etc. Without the proper gear, full participation in practice is difficult and we want you to get as much out of every practice as possible.
Parents – Please sign up to volunteer for Saturday’s meet. We need a referee, a stroke and turn official and a couple timers.

Rams,
It was a fantastic first week of practice. You came in ready to go and worked hard throughout. Coach Keeton and I are thrilled with how things went and how well you have adapted to our changed schedule for the start of the season.
Unfortunately, we are back at Dulles South for practice this week (Monday and Tuesday). However, the Lansdowne HOA has announced that the pool will reopen on November 28, so we will be back in Lansdowne and back to our regular schedule next week – just in time to get into the swing of our competitive season.
If your parents are not receiving email from me, please make sure that they get their email address to me. Here is the link to sign up - https://bit.ly/swimlist2022 . I want to make sure everyone is fully informed throughout the season.
If your parents have not already signed up to volunteer at meets, please encourage them to do so. Our first meet is coming soon – December 3 – and there are still opportunities available. In fact, we still need a referee, a stroke and turn official and 4 timers for our first meet. Here are the links to sign up to volunteer.

Here is information on how to become a VHSL official.
In addition, before each home meet, our team holds pasta parties. Lori Bryant is coordinating our pasta parties and has set up a sign up for hosting opportunities as well as for families to register to bring the food, drinks, etc. These are GREAT events and I encourage everyone to sign up soon. Here is your schedule for the week of November 21. It’s a short week of school and practice. Let’s make it productive and efficient. Then, we can rest up, enjoy Thanksgiving with our families, and then come back ready to get our meets started.

Rams,
Welcome to the 2022-23 Riverside Rams swim season. Coach Keeton and I are excited to get started and to have a fantastic season.
We get things rolling with a jam-packed schedule for the week, coupled with the continued challenge of having to travel to Dulles South for our practices on Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully, this will be our last week of late nights and long rides, but I’m not sure yet. As soon as the Lansdowne HOA provides me with an update on the reopening of the pool, I’ll let you know. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Please remind your parents that the Riverside Winter Sports meeting is at school on Monday at 7:00 pm. I’d like to encourage all parents to attend so that they don’t miss any information from the athletic department (VHSL and LCPS rules and regulations). In addition, there will be a swim team only session following the athletic department’s presentation. We’ll be meeting in the auditorium. (Swimmers, please be sure to pass this information on to your parents as I do not have everyone’s contact information yet.)
As we discussed at our meeting on Thursday, we had a great tryout week with some great swims, and we have a talented and deep team. Over the next couple of weeks, we will be getting in some great workouts as we prepare for our first meet on December 3. Be ready to practice HARD over the coming weeks.
If you have not already done so, purchase/organize your equipment: Suit, Goggles, Pull Buoys, Fins, and Snorkel. Bring your equipment with you to every practice and make sure you have a water bottle (full) for each practice!
We always start and finish on time. Do not be late. We are in the water and swimming right at the start of practice. Also, we request that all parents to please be at the pool to pick up your swimmers by 9:30 pm (this week at Dulles South). This will avoid having swimmers (and coaches) standing outside in the cold waiting for pick-ups.
We welcome you to show your team spirit and demonstrate support for the team by purchasing and wearing some official Rams Swim Team gear. The online store closes, tomorrow, Monday, November 14. Your orders will be delivered to my house over winter break for distribution. There’s some great stuff available. Check it out!
You can purchase your TEAM SUIT and any swim equipment, or any other items, that you need through the Riverside Rams Swim Team Store on SwimOutlet - https://www.swimoutlet.com/rvhsramsswim/
You can purchase any swim items that you want/need on SwimOutlet and by entering through the Rams Swim Team Store, the team earns a residual payment.
If you have not paid your athletic fees, please take care of that immediately:

If you have not paid for your team shirt, caps, or jackets, please do that immediately:
https://lcps.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/9257/371/False/True
Here is your schedule for the week of November 14:
Monday: Wear team shirts to school.
- Team picture at ~5:00 pm. Please wear your team shirt and pants without holes for the picture (dark pants/jeans preferred). I’ll be staying in my classroom after school. You are welcome to hang out there until picture time
- Winter Sports Parent’s Meeting at RVHS Main Gym, 7:00 pm. Swim team session immediately following in auditorium.
- Practice at Dulles South, 8:009:30 pm
Tuesday: Practice at Dulles South, 8:00-9:30 pm
Wednesday: Dryland Practice at Stadium- “Wednesday Night Lights”, 4:45-5:45 pm
- It’s going to be chilly. Dress appropriately.
Thursday:
- Team Meeting at RVHS room 1402, 4:305:15 pm
- Among other things, we will be discussing our goals for the season and electing team captains for the season.
- Team captains will be nominated by the coaches and elected by the team. There will be 2 captains for the girl’s team, and 2 captains for the boy’s team.
We are looking forward to an amazing season and cannot wait to get to work tomorrow.

Rams,
I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving, got in some good rest, and is now ready for the season to get rolling!
I am excited that we are finally back in our home pool (Lansdowne), that our late-night practices are over, and that everyone is now healthy and able to attend all practices. It’s going to be amazing to have the entire team at all practices now and working together. Everything accelerates this week as we have a full week of practice and our first meet. It’s going to be great!
With practice starting at 4:45, I strongly encourage you bring your bag to school and go directly to the pool at dismissal. You are welcome to leave your bag in my classroom in the morning and retrieve it at the end of the day. We will be starting each practice with some dryland work for 15 minutes and then we are in the water at 5:00. Be on time, dressed and ready to go. Time is limited and we have a lot to accomplish each day.
The line-up for Saturday is set and has been posted to RiversideRams.net. We will talk through it on Thursday at our meeting. We have a strong and deep team. Coach Keeton and I are excited to see some fast swims this weekend.
Parents – we still have two openings for volunteers for Saturday’s meet. We need a Referee and one timer. Here’s the link to register https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0a44aeae22aa8-stone2
Please take on these roles. We cannot hold the meet without every slot filled.
Here is your schedule for the week of November 28.
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Wednesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
