The 2019-2020 Loudoun County Championships was held at Loudoun's newest school, Independence High. The Rams entered one wrestler in each of the 14 weight classes. The rams were even able to add the (160) back up into the tournament. This was the first time that the rams could enter a full varsity roster into this tournament.
As wrestling concluded on the first day we had 2 wrestlers advance to the Semi-finals, (170) Mikey Harrigan and (220) Ryan Santos. We also had 9 wrestlers still alive in the consolation bracket, (106) Noah Park, (126) Daniel Ruiz-Paiva, (132) Brian Vera, (152) Sam Bollman, (160) Junior Mendoza, (160) Gabe Thompson, (182) RJ Coleman III, (195) AJ Prah, and (285) Hale Anderson.
After the first round of day 2, the Rams had Park, Bollman, Mendoza, Thompson, and Anderson headed to the "Blood Round". The blood round is the round prior to meddling in a wrestling tournament. In the blood round Park and Mendoza advanced to the consolation semi-finals to wrestle for an opportunity to wrestle for 3rd place. Both won their matches decisively and earned their place in the 3rd/Bronze medal match. Mendoza went on to win his 3rd place match. Mendoza's win was impressive as he lost in the round of 16, then he had to wrestle back and win 7 matches to place 3rd.
After the Championship semi-final round, both Harrigan and Santos pinned their opponents to advance to the finals of the Loudoun County Championships. In the finals Harrigan lost to a tough opponent from Loudoun County High School and Santos was injured and fell to Freedom High School.
Up next for the Rams will be a district dual at Briar Woods on Wednesday, December 18th at 6pm. The rams will wrestle Stone Bridge and Briar Woods in a Tri-Meet. The JV Rams will also be in attendance wrestling JV matches against the same schools.
