XC-Thank You!

Good Morning Rams.

Myself, Coach Brosius, and Coach Loffredo would like to thank each of you for the kind words and very generous gift. It has truly been a pleasure getting the opportunity coaching each of you this season and working with such wonderful and supportive families.

As I mentioned at the banquet, each and everyone of you is part of my extended family and I am so very thankful for that!

As we move into the winter season, continue to run and stay in shape. I encourage each of you to join us for winter running club regardless if you plan to run track in the Spring. Also, stay tuned for many more fun running events with your Ram Fam! We will have our annual Holiday Run/ Party up to PRR as well as a few Challenge runs throughout the winter months.

Once again thank you again for another great season! I hope each of you has a very Happy Holiday Season full of fun, family, and of course some fitness! Best of luck to all those participating in a Turkey Trot! Please send me your pictures/ results. I always love hearing about it.

Halloween Trick or Treat Run: Calling all Parents we need your help for our annual Trick or Treat Run. Each season we have a fun run. This run is opened to all our team and all runners are encouraged to come out and join the fun! It's one of the highlights of the season. Here's how it works- athletes show up in costume, we trick or treat ( running from house to house) and the host houses provide a trick ( an exercise assigned by Coach DeGaetano) and then after they complete the trick you provide the treat! Then we move onto the next house. After the trick or treating we have a pizza party, trivia, and more sweets! This year's run will be on Thursday, October 26th! Here's how you can help:

1) Live in the Lansdowne Area? Be a host house, you will need to be home on October 26th between 4 30- 6 30PM or you can leave the treat in a designated area for us to pick up. Coach DeGaetano will provide the trick for you. Remember the trick is the exercise.

2) Donate Candy, Cookies, Cupcakes, Sweet Treats! We will use these for the post run party!

If you are interested in being a host house please notify Coach DeGaetano!

Go Rams!

We’re still having the pasta dinner even with the meet cancellation. We’re short on a few items. Pease take a look at the open spots and sign up where you can. Please note that the pasta casseroles do not have to be homemade. A pre-made lasagna from the freezer aisle is fine. The pre-made pasta dishes at Costco are always a hit as well - such as the chicken alfredo or ziti. Just heat it up and bring it over.  http://signup.com/go/TGZWvtD

This week’s pasta dinner will be held at the home of Evan and Justin Logan (18773 Upper Meadow Dr. Lansdowne).

The dinner will begin around 5:30. Please bring your items by 5:00. “Carpooling” your food items works great - just check out the signup and see if you can coordinate with someone you know or lives close to you to bring multiple items over. Thank you to everyone for your support for our XC Pasta dinners!!

Xc- Meet Help for 9/13 and 9/16

Good Morning XC Parents and Family Members,

We need your help for our next two races on Wednesday, 9/13 and Saturday 9/16. Thank you to all that have already committed to helping volunteer, we truly appreciate it! Below is some general information regarding helping volunteer at a meet.

What are the jobs:

They range depending on the meet but to name a few of the most popular ones:

Timers- Time the race, it's not as scary as you may think it would be. Plus we have back- up timers. This is only for Wednesday meets.

Course Marshalls- Help in areas on the course to direct runners in the right direction

Handing Out Index Cards as Runners finish- Basically what it sounds like, as runners finish hand them a index card, they will know what to do with it from there. This is only for Wednesday meets.

Finish Line area help- Keep runners moving in the direction after finishing the race, also keeping them in order as  they finish the race

Clean-up crew- Help take down flags, banners, course markings, and breaking down items from the meet. This is only for the Saturday meet ( 9/16)

Parking Lot help- Help direct buses into the parking area, this is only for the Saturday meet ( 9/16) Bonus- this is an early morning job so you will be done before the races get going or close to it!

Team help- Help Coach DeGaetano record names of the JV race as they finish, spread sheet and clip board included :) This is only for the Wednesday meet.

And Cheer Squad!!! This is for anyone planning to attend the meet, cheer as much as you can for our Rams! Loud and Proud!

Please note none of the jobs require any racing/ cross country experience, we will teach you the job before you head out to your position! I promise anyone can do it!

Many of the positions allow you to see your runner at the start and finish of the race. We ask that each family help at least one to two times during the season to allow everyone to be able to watch their runners in full without volunteering but please no that you are able to see portions of the race and still volunteer.

Typically the time commitment for all the positions are the length of the meet. For example a Wednesday meet if about 90 minutes from start to finish. The Saturday meet will be a longer day but the volunteering piece will be about 60 minutes. The more help we have on Saturday the quicker the clean-up will be!

For the Wednesday meet- we ask that all volunteers arrive by 5 00PM for a quick meet meeting. The first race will go off at 5 30.
For the Saturday meet- Mr. Matt Oblas will give you the times depending on how you are helping out. The clean-up will be at the conclusion of the meet. We ask that all families help with this!

If you have any questions please feel free to email Coach DeGaetano! We thank you in advance!

Our first pasta dinner is a week away and we’re still short on several spots - primarily the pasta dishes! Please take a look at the open spots and sign up where you can.

This week’s pasta dinner will be held at the home of TQ Williamson at 20231 Millstead Dr. Ashburn. A big thank you to TQ’s family for hosting!

The dinner will begin around 5:30. Please bring your items by 5:00. “Carpooling” your food items works great - just check out the signup and see if you can coordinate with someone you know or lives close to you to bring multiple items over.

XC- A message from our XC parents

A Message from our XC Families regarding a fun activity with your team!

Hi Everyone!  A few of us xc parents and students plan to go to Watermelon Park for lazy river tubing this coming Tuesday Aug 8th after practice and we'd love to have a large xc group to join in on the fun!  Watermelon Park is a beautiful recreation area along side the Shenandoah River.  It is less than 50 minutes from Belmont and offers 1-2 hour lazy river tubing trip. Anyone participating should wear bathing suit and bring towel, sunscreen, bag lunch, bottled water, money for tube ($10.50), cash tip for shuttle driver (a few dollars) and any recreational activity like a football that they would like to play after tubing.  Water shoes are recommended.  If you are interested and can drive, let me know how many you can fit in your car and I'll try to piece it all together for the students who want to go but have parents who are working.

For more information about the park: http://watermelonpark.com/recreation-2/

XC- a note from Coach Brenner

Dear Riverside Family,

I have loved my time at Riverside.  It was an awesome opportunity to open a new school and create a culture of togetherness, team first mentality, and strong work ethic.  We have some of the greatest students, teachers, staff, and administration that I have ever been around. But mostly, we have THE GREATEST track and cross country athletes I’ve ever been around.  The amount of support provided by the parents is unparalleled, and I have never seen anything like it.  I enjoyed every day that I worked here, but it is time to move on in support of my family.  I have been offered a position with Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill, SC, which I have accepted.

So to everyone at Riverside High School, thank you from the bottom of my heart for my time with you. I will never forget it!

Sincerely,

Coach Brenner
