Week of 3/31

Posted on 03/30/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

We hope you all are enjoying the warm weather this weekend! We are super excited about a fun and challenging week ahead. Every year we attempt to challenge ourselves against some of the nation’s best teams that we normally wouldn’t play. This week we will be traveling to two of those schools. The boys have been preparing hard, and we feel good about our game plans. We are excited for the challenge and understand our goals (playing hard, playing with heart, staying positive, and enjoying the experience).

Here is how this week looks:

3/31 – No School. We will have practice from 12-2pm on the practice turf. (We are trying to avoid the predicted afternoon thunderstorms.)

4/1 – Away Games @ Landon School (Both Games will be at 4:30pm)

  • Both teams have early dismissal at 1pm. (Busses leave at 2pm)
    • Please use that time to eat lunch (like normal). You may go to the cafeteria as you normally do. Players be in the locker room area at 1:30pm.
  • There will be a “post-game program meal” at the busses directly at the conclusion of the contests.
  • JV will be playing on the grass field near the entrance of the campus. Varsity will be playing in the Stadium.

4/2 – Practice 4:30-7:00pm (Practice Turf)

4/3 – Practice 4:30-6:30pm (Practice Turf)

4/4 – Practice 4:30-6:30pm (Practice Turf)

4/5 – JV is OFF. Varsity Away Game @ St. Christophers (Richmond) Game time is 12:00pm.

  • Varsity Players arrive at 7:00am. Bus leaves at 7:45am.
  • There will be breakfast sandwiches provided at school when you arrive.
  • Players will be provided lunch at the bus after the game is completed.

Let’s make it a great week! ALL IN.

Week of 3/24

Posted on 03/23/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope you all are enjoying your weekend! We are excited for our Home Opening Game this coming Friday! Weather (as of now looks to be great). Let’s get a huge crowd out there and be loud cheering on our boys.

The website I have been told has been updated. It has been reported to me that some people did in fact receive last week’s notifications, emails, and texts. If you did not, please re-subscribe to the Boys Lacrosse Team (emails/text alerts) located on www.riversiderams.net.

This week we will be discussion and explaining the difference between Goals vs. Standards. Goals are performance-based. They reinforce what we want to achieve. Such as winning a game, scoring well on test/quiz, meeting quarterly business numbers, or winning a championship.  Standards are behavior-based. They reinforce how we are expected to behave while achieving our goals. Such as coming to practice on time, practicing with high energy and enthusiasm, hustling, being positive with teammates, and many other things we do daily. Goals and standards together provide us with structure. And we all perform best with structure. It is our job as leaders - parents, coaches, and teachers to provide both.

Here is how this week looks:

Monday 2/23 – Practice 4:30-7:00pm (Practice Turf)

  • We will Lift

Tuesday 2/24 – Practice 4:30-6:30pm (Practice Turf)

Wednesday 2/25 – Practice 4:30-7:00pm (Practice Turf)

  • We will Lift

Thursday 2/26 – Practice 4:30-6:30pm (Practice Turf)

Friday 2/27 – Home Games vs. Freedom SR (5:30pm JV – 7:00pm Varsity)

  • Varsity Team Meal @ 4:30pm (High Top Tables outside the cafeteria)
  • JV reports @ 4:30pm for jerseys.
  • Let’s be loud and cheer positive for our boys!

As always, any changes that may come up we will communicate to you all ASAP.

ALL IN

Week of 3/17

Posted on 03/16/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. We are anxiously awaiting game week this week! The players have been working extremely hard and we are exciting to see them in action.

This week we are going to be discussing the concept of Great Team Leaders, and Great Teammates. Great Team Leaders do two things. 1. They accomplish the mission. Whatever that mission may be.  It can be as small as being sure everyone has the same socks on. 2. They take care of their teammates. They make sure their teammates come first, always.

Great Teammates also do two things. 1. Meet the standards of our team, consistently and at a high level. 2. Hold fellow teammates accountable for meeting those same standards.

To be a Great Team Leader you also must be vocal. We have discussed there is no such thing as the saying “leading by example”. A player that is consistently doing the right thing, coming to practice on time, giving great effort, meeting all our standards, is in turn “setting the example”. “Setting the example” is fantastic, and held in high regard, but it is not leading. To lead you must be vocal and express what is needed to accomplish the mission. Leading can be difficult, and may not be for everyone, and we understand that. We will continue to help guide players in how to become Great Team Leaders and Great Teammates throughout the season!

Here is how the week looks:

Monday 3/17 – Practice 4:30-6:30pm (Practice Turf)

Tuesday 3/18 – Away Games @ Patriot HS (5:30pm JV / 7:00pm Varsity)

  • Shirts and Ties to school
  • JV will have early dismissal at 3:30pm. JV Bus leaves at 3:45pm.
  • Varsity has a team meat ASAP after school. Varsity Bus leaves at 4:45pm.

Wednesday 3/19 – JV Away Game @ Langley HS (7:30pm). Varsity Practice 4:30-7:00pm.

  • JV shirts and Ties to school
  • JV please bring a sandwich/meal with you for after school. You game is a later start time and we would like you have something to eat. Coach Florczyk will communicate what time you will eat with you this week.
  • JV Bus leaves at 5:15pm

Thursday 3/20 – Practice 4:30-7:00pm

Friday 3/21 – OFF

  • It has been a long 4 weeks of hard work. We do not have a game until Friday 3/28. Enjoy the afternoon.

Saturday 3/22 – Practice 8:00-11:00am

ALL IN

Week of 3/10

Posted on 03/06/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

This weekend will be a busy one for me, so I wanted to be sure to get next week’s schedule out. We have a fun week ahead with two tough scrimmages against top 6A competition.

This week into next week, the program will continue to discuss Accountability. Specifically, the difference between being “Nice” and “Kind”, as well as the meaning of how “Silence” effects the team.

“Nice” is saying hello, please, and thank you. Nice is sitting down with a lonely teammate or classmate or holding the door for someone. Be nice! “Kind” is holding a teammate accountable. We understand that it may hurt their feelings or make them upset at us at times, but because it will make them (and our team) better, kind people hold teammates accountable. Be nice and kind! “Silence” is neither being nice nor kind. Silence is consent. We stay silent because we lack moral courage. Don’t. If our teammates (in our school or on the lacrosse field) are doing something wrong or falling short of our program standards, say something! Have the moral courage to be a great teammate.

Weekly Schedule:

Monday 3/10 – Away Scrimmages @ Battlefield High School (JV-5:30pm/Varsity-7:00pm)

  • JV players have early dismissal at 3:45pm (Bus Leaves at 4:00pm)
  • Varsity players have a team meal @ 4:30pm in the cafeteria.
  • All Players, be sure to bring all spirit pack items, and wash your practice jersey.

Tuesday 3/11 – Practice (5:00-7:45pm)

  • Practice is a little longer then normal. We will be watching film, practicing, and lifting.

Wednesday 3/12 – Home Scrimmages vs. Robinson (JV-6:00pm/Varsity-7:15pm)

  • JV players report to the locker room area by 4:30pm.
  • Varsity players have a team meal @ 4:30pm in the cafeteria.

Thursday 3/13 – Practice (4:30-7:00pm)

  • JV will be lifting.

Friday 3/14 – Practice (5:45-7:45pm)

Saturday 3/15 – Practice (8:00-11:00am)

  • Remember tennis shoes, and clothes to lift in.

Action Items:

  • We still need a scorekeeper/timekeeper for JV home games. If anyone is interested in having a great seat in the press box, and can help run the scoreboard we would really appreciate it. (we need someone by Wednesday 3/12). Please contact Kerry Smith if you can help.
  • Please make sure to submit payment for your spirit pack. We need to pay the bill. https://lcps.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/46548/371/False/True

Thank you all so much. Let’s make next week a GREAT week. ALL IN!

Great First Week

Updated on 03/04/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I just wanted to reach out and give a few administrative reminders and updates. It has been a long week for everyone. Congratulations to all that have made the 2025 boys lacrosse program! I want to thank you all for your tremendous attitudes, support, and effort this week (Parents included).

For new families, the first 2 weeks are always the most challenging, as we have a ton of logistical items that we need to take care of at the beginning of the season. After that, things settle down into a smooth routine. The boys are working hard on not only learning lacrosse but assimilating into the culture of the program. This week we are stressing our 3 core values: Accountability, Integrity, and Toughness.

Accountability: Holding themselves and their teammates accountable for meeting our program standards on and off the playing field.

Integrity: No lying, cheating, stealing, or tolerating those within our program who do.

Toughness: Being physically and mentally tough all while helping our teammate to be the same. Realizing that the optimal time improve mental toughness is when you are physically tired and understanding the difference between being “hurt” and “injured”.

A few reminders that we need to work on this weekend:

  1. Spirit Pack Payment. Yesterday, all players were issued their mandatory spirit packs for this year. To ensure that the players have the items on time, we always pre-order the gear. This year’s pack includes all custom items from Under Armour. Players receive a Sweatshirt, Sweatpants, T-Shirt, Practice Shorts, Long Sleeve Cold Gear, Game Socks, Laundry Service, Gatorade Powder, Muscle Milk, Gatorade Chews and other items along the way.
    1. The price for this year’s pack is $190. Please log into the Riverside Payment Portal to pay for your gear. https://lcps.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/46548/371/False/True
    2. If you have issues with payment, please do not hesitate to communicate and come see Coach Worek.
  2. Fundraising. We need to raise money for a lot of different costs that help our program be as competitive as possible. Things we need raise money for, but not limited to, are: help in subsidizing the cost of spirit packs, pay for the new varsity helmets, helmet decals, hudl subscription (game film), balls, nets, buses (I will explain at parent meeting), last years rings, camera accessories, Gatorade package and countless other costs that accrue during the season.
    1. This year we are using Vertical Raise (a company like ETeams). Your son has a flyer explaining the fundraiser, there is also a sheet that I have added under “Team Files” that you can review.
    2. Our fundraiser will kick off on Monday 3/3.
  3. Spring Team Store. We have created two different team stores this spring.
    1. Parents/Fans: https://bsnteamsports.com/shop/YrTddzkW3o
    2. Extra Spirit Pack Items for Players: Link to come!
  4.  Parent Meeting. We will have our preseason parent meeting Monday 3/3. The meeting will start at 7pm in the Main Gym, then we will breakout and have our Lacrosse specific meeting in the library.

Thank you for reading this long email. I will be sending, and continue to send, our weekly schedule on Sunday’s. Next week will be an “early week”, we will be practicing from 4:30-6:30 after school.

ALL IN

Updated on 03/04/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

Our Riverside Basketball Team has a huge game tonight vs. Potomac Falls. Many of our lacrosse players are leaders around the building and want to support classmates and friends in the basketball program.  We also feel that it is important to your overall high school experience to do so, supporting other teams and having Ram Pride.  We will be canceling our Green Day tonight 2/4. Please plan on attending the basketball senior night game tonight vs. Pot Falls and cheering positively for our team.

We do encourage you to get out and get some lacrosse work in on your own. Wall ball, stick-work and conditioning are always a top priority.

Week on 10/15

Updated on 03/04/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

My apologies for the delayed weekly email. I had some information that I wanted to include that I wasn’t able to gather until today.

Here is how the rest of the week looks:

Wednesday 10/16 – Off

Thursday 10/17 – Green Day 7-9pm (Stadium)

Friday 10/18 – Lifting 6:50-8:30am

Other Items:

  • We have made a google form to gather information about spirit pack sizes for the spring. We always pre order items so that players receive their gear when they make the team, and do not need to wait weeks for the orders to arrive. Please fill out the form to the best of your knowledge. We want to be clear that by filling out sizes in no way guarantees a player a spot in the program. We do this to just gage an estimate of what we need to order.
  • As we have done for years now, our HOLIDAY TEAM STORE is now up and running. Back by popular demand we have included top name brand items like Lululemon, Nike, Travis Mathews, Eddie Bauer and more. This store is not mandatory in any way. We like to make exclusive items available to families and fans to purchase as holiday gifts so that you can go out and support our program in style!

That is all for now! Be on the look out in a few weeks for Fall Brawl, Turkey Shootout and St. Johns Tournament sign up information.

ALL IN,

-Coach Worek

ALL IN

-Coach Worek

Green Day 2/4 Canceled

Roll 'Side!

Week of 9/30

Updated on 03/04/2025

Greetings Riverside Lacrosse,

I hope all is well, just wanted to give a quick update and schedule reminders:

  • Our young 9th and 10th graders have been doing an amazing job at the VEL league. They are currently 4-0 and have a big match up vs. PVI next week.
  • Reminder that our off-season lifting program begins tomorrow morning at 6:50am. Coach Greg Fenner, our strength and conditioning coordinator will be running all lifting sessions. Please be sure you are on time, bring water, and be ready to work. Any questions about lifting and morning workouts, please direct them to Coach Fenner… Gregory.Fenner@lcps.org
  • Remember that to participate in any off-season team training, you must have all paperwork done and turned in. You can find that on www.riversiderams.net under “required forms for participation”.
  • Our first Green Day Practice is next Tuesday, 10/8, from 7-9pm in the stadium.

We are HUGE believers in our strength program to help prepare us for the long season. It not only helps us become bigger, faster, and stronger, but it also helps develop our bodies to prevent injury. This is the “season before the season”. Let’s get after it!

Our Weekly Schedule:

Monday 9/30: Off

Tuesday 10/1: Lifting 6:50-8:20am

Wednesday 10/2: Off

Thursday 10/3: Off

Week of 10/15
