Good morning Rams!

Green day outdoor, off season practices will commence this Wednesday after school (4:15-6:00PM) on the field at “The Wall.” All student athletes interested in participating in the softball program this spring are highly encouraged to attend. In order to be eligible to participate, every student athlete MUST have ALL pieces of the online paperwork & physical completed and submitted to the Riverside Athletic Office prior to Wednesday’s practice. As a reminder you can find the full instructions for both the online portion of the paperwork and the hard copy of the physical on RiversideRams.net or by clicking HERE. Please bring all of your softball gear and dress in appropriate softball attire.

We will be once again be working with the girls lacrosse program for our off-season strength & conditioning program starting in November. Riverside Strength Coach Kirkland has offered to head up the program. Stay tuned for more details.

We are looking forward to building on last season’s on-field success and continue the growth of our off-field cultural development.

Good evening Rams!

We are excited to kick off the start of the 2019-20 Rams Softball Program with an interest meeting on Thursday, September 5, 2019. The meeting will be held right after school at the Softball Field. All that are interested in playing or managing should attend. The meeting should last approximately 30 minutes.

We will review plans for fall workouts, winter strength & conditioning as well as winter hitting, required paperwork, tryout dates and other information.

If you have not already completed your required paperwork and physical, please see the link HERE for all the necessary information. **NOTE** You WILL NOT be able to be on the field or in the gym/weight room without having these items completed so plan accordingly.

With the win on Thursday night, the Rams have secured the #1 seed and a bye in the District Tournament. We will also host throughout the District Tournament with a win at home on 5/20. Thursday's victory also sealed our Regular Season Dulles District Championship and an automatic berth to the Regional Tournament which we will host the semi final game on 5/28. Good morning Rams:

As we approach the end of the season, I want to thank everyone that has supported the Rams Softball Program this year. It has been an incredible season thus far for both teams and we look to continue it next week and beyond.

There are a couple of items we need to complete and prepare for as we head into the home stretch of the season and school year!

1) SENIOR NIGHT - Let's pack the stands on Thursday night for our Varsity game vs. Dominion as we celebrate Shayna Lubitz. Shayna is our first 4-year Varsity player! Her plans after graduation include starting her college education at Syracuse University. #GoOrange

2) PRE-GAME MEAL ACCOUNTS - Please get in tough with Kevin Walsh ASAP to settle up your balance due for your pre-game meals from CFA & Potbelly. Thank you to the Walsh's for organizing and executing this!

3) END OF SEASON BANQUET - Right now the end of season banquet is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 2, 2019 in the evening at Belmont Country Club. We are attempting to avoid graduation, graduation parties and timing of the conclusion of the Varsity season. More details including final date/time/cost to come!

4) UNIFORMS - At the conclusion of the season, please make sure your uniforms are cleaned, especially the pants. If necessary please use extra care to get the pants clean of the tough stains from the infield dirt. Uniforms to be turned into team managers within 2-3 days after your final game! Thank you!!!

5) COACHING STAFF - we are continuing our active search for an Assistant Coach for the JV team to help Coach Steve next year. If anyone is aware of someone interested in working with a great group of players, please put them in touch with me ASAP.

Snow, snow go away! Eventually we will get outside on a regular basis :)

I wanted to make sure the word has gotten back to everyone about a schedule change for Monday's games vs. Stone Bridge.

We will have early release for the team. Please get dressed promptly and be in the girls hallway ASAP as the JV game is now away with a 5pm start. This will be a 5-inning game and the Varsity game will immediately follow.

Also a reminder that there is to be NO food on the bus so pre-game meals should be eaten prior to getting on the bus or once we arrive at our destinations.

Welcome to all of the players, families and friends to #Team4 and a new season of Riverside Softball. We are off and running and excited to spring into action. We can already see how dedicated and passionate this group of players is and trust us, they will be exciting to watch.

Season athletic fee needs to be processed online or turned in to the athletic office. Note the store closes Sunday at Midnight. If you have any questions, please let us know. **Note the jacket is only for those that do not have a jacket already**

The Power of a Positive Team by Jon Gordon - You may have noticed in the philosophy document a book on the front as well as many themes/quotes. We will be reading this book together as a program and discussing the various themes together to help us grow off the field as much as on it. Please order this book. The cheapest place I have found this was on Amazon. We also gave each player a notebook to bring each day to take notes, journal and keep their thoughts and goals documented.

Fundraising - this year we doing the eTeamSponsor email fundraising campaign. It is an extremely efficient method to raise money. This year we are raising money for additional items to outfit the pressbox, future locker room, hitting mats, more softballs, wheeled cart, arm care bands and other items. More information to come on that this upcoming week. In addition, we will be doing some dinner night events, like Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A nights. These are fun to get the team together as well and benefit the program.

Wednesday is a VERY busy day!!!

Picture Day - First, we have our individual and team pictures scheduled for 4:30pm in the Aux Gym. Picture Order Forms will be handed out prior to Wednesday.  Send in a check with the order form to purchase pictures.  For easier processing, parents can also order online at https://order.lifetouchsports.com/index.cfm?event=OrderHome&contractID=163847. Please make sure everyone is dressed and ready to go!

ImPact Concussion Testing - For Freshmen, Juniors or new athletes, ImPact Concussion Testing will be after school. Most likely you will take care of this immediately after your pictures.

Mandatory Spring Sports Meeting - All parents, players and managers are to attend the mandatory meeting at 7pm on 2/27 in the Riverside Auditorium.

First Pitch Dinner - immediately following the Spring Sport Meeting, we will head to the Cafeteria to kick-off our season with a new tradition. This will be a great time to meet everyone and learn about the goals for the teams and program.

Riverside Athletic Booster Club is hosting a meeting and elections for the remainder of the 2019 year and all of 2019-2020. It will take place on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25 at 7pm in the Library.  All parents are invited. This is a great way to get involved and support softball and all of Riverside Athletics.

Concession & Volunteer Sign-ups are now posted on RiversideRams.Net under “volunteer sign-up.” Please sign up for spring concession volunteer slots. Note that each family should plan to volunteer for at least 1 slot during the season. We will raise an additional $400+ for the program. The more you sign up, the more money is raised for the program. Sign up early!!!

Field Day & Lunch - Saturday, March 2, 2019 (weather dependent), 10am-Whenever, “The Wall”

Please plan to attend this important day in helping to keep the most beautiful softball complex in the County looking great and ready for play! If you have gardening equipment (rakes, edger, leave blower/vacuum, etc.), cleaning supplies (brooms, paper towels, solutions, etc.), yard garbage bags, etc., please bring with you so we can clean up the field, pressbox, upstairs, and around the outside of the fence. We would love to have everyone bring some food and drinks to share as well. If someone could volunteer to coordinate a lunch of some sort, that would be GREAT!!!

LCPS is opening schools for activities tonight. I have confirmed with Riverside and we are available to run our practice. Therefore, we will have our defensive practice tonight as previously scheduled at 6:30pm in the Aux Gym. Pitchers plan to throw, catchers bring gear. See you tonight!!!

All: Due to the uncertainty of the weather and the upcoming LCPS announcement, we are going to make the decision to cancel the softball weight room session tomorrow, 1/29.

I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend and staying warm. We have a couple of updates/reminders relating to our upcoming schedule.

First...weightroom is on as scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday this week & next week at 6:45am. If there are any delays, weightroom is canceled.

Also, plan now that weightroom on 2/5 & 2/7 are at 6:30am and Coach Kirkland will be running. Please be prompt. No weightroom on 2/12 & last weightroom is on 2/14.

Next, due to last week's snow day and cancellation of the basketball games, our 1/23 hitting sessions are being bumped for the basketball rescheduled games on the same night.

Our next scheduled green day workout is 1/30 in the main gym. We will work defense, pitching and catching. Please make sure you bring all gear.

Reminder for those that still need to get their completed online paperwork done as well as the hard copy physical, please get that completed so you can participate.

Tryouts are 2/18-2/20. Team rosters will be finalized on 2/20 with team meetings to immediately follow.

There are a lot of exciting things happening with our program and we wanted to update you and send out our off-season workout schedule, so sorry for the longer email. MEET COACH FULCHER
We are excited to announce the hiring of Coach John Fulcher to the position of Assistant Varsity Coach. Coach Fulcher is a Northern VA native, growing up locally and attending George Mason University as a student athlete. As a proud Patriot, he received his degree in Education, specializing in Health and Physical Education. While at GMU, he was drafted to the MLB by the Milwaukee Brewers as a left handed pitcher. In 2012, he received his Masters in Educational Leadership. After playing professional baseball, Coach Fulcher began teaching Health, Physical Education and Driver Education with Fairfax County Public Schools. Currently, he works in sales and as a substitute teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools.

Coach Fulcher has been fortunate to have built positive relationships with student-athletes in the classroom and on the field. He has helped develop some of the very best baseball players in the area over the last 10 years at both Westfield and Chantilly High Schools and was proud member of the 2015 State Championship baseball team at Chantilly.

Coach Fulcher lives in Leesburg with his wife, Kristen, and his 3 very active kids, Halliday (11), Braden (9), and Tanner (6). In his free time, you can find him on the sidelines and coaching his 3 kids in their sports, including travel softball.

Starting on Thursday, 1/3 and continuing each Tuesday and Thursday morning at 6:45am before school, we will be in the weight room working on getting stronger & more fit in preparation for the upcoming tryout season. There is NOT a specific signup for this activity.

This year the Ram Softball Program will have a different approach to its off-season hitting session. In order to maximize your time, your swings and get additional 1-1 instruction, please sign up for a one-hour slot for each of the sessions. This will be a first-come, first-serve sign-up so if you have a preference or scheduling issue, please sign up early. There are 2 sessions (1/30 & 2/14) that are NOT split and are in the main gym. On Thursday, 10/25 we will host a series of competitions between 2 teams (Team Blue & Team Red) that will include hitting, fielding and skills. Prizes for the winning team!!!

Due to wet field conditions, we will NOT be holding our previously scheduled green day tomorrow after school.

We will continue with the scheduled workouts, weather permitting, next week, Tuesday, 9/18 at 4:30pm. For those that will need to store their equipment, I will meet at the softball field press box at 8:45am on practice days so players can lock their gear up.

Finally, please strongly consider supporting the 3rd Annual Riverside Rams Run for Pink 5K on September 29th. I know that it is a very well-organized effort and supports a fantastic cause in the Loudoun Breast Health Network. More information and registration can be found HERE. I know that many in the softball program are planning on participating and a group registration gets a discount.

Good morning Rams: We are in week 3 of the season and wanted to give you some insights on where we are and the upcoming schedule. With last night’s win, the Varsity club boosts its record to 6-1 and 1-0 in the Dulles District. The team continues to get quality pitching and play solid defense while getting clutch hits and aggressive base running. The JV team is working hard and developing everyday. With a 4-2 record the JV hitters are offensive juggernauts. In their 6 games, the Rams have scored 64 runs! Both teams continue a busy week with games Thursday and Friday. Thursday, JV is away at Heritage while Varsity takes on the Pride at “The Wall.” Game time is 6pm. Friday has JV at home taking on Patriot HS and Varsity traveling out of County to take on Patriot. We know this is a teacher work day. JV arrive at the field by 4:15. Varsity be down at the field at 2:30pm for some BP prior to getting on the bus at 3:15pm. Our week concludes with our Field Day at “The Wall” on Saturday at 10am. We have some projects to complete and cleanup. If you have yard equipment (leaf blowers/vacuum, edger, rakes, etc.) please bring them. We also need brooms, shovels, yard garbage bags, cleaning supplies, etc. to assist with the cleaning. We would like to have a little fun as well so if you would like to bring some drinks and snacks as well that would be great. We will order some pizza around noon for everyone. Feel free to bring wiffle balls, corn hole or other fun games. We will put the music on and have some good times! Thank you to everyone that has participated in our fundraising efforts. We are still working it but it has been successful thus far. Thank you. Also a big thanks to the Walsh’s for coordinating our pregame meals for both teams. Please connect with them for payment if you have not yet paid. The Rams are off to a solid start on and off the field and we look to continue our momentum! Our Seldens program is in full swing and everyone is loving it! Our book read is ramping up and our 1-word project is getting started and we are working on another non-softball “surprise” for the players as well. The annual Runfor24 5K Color Run in honor of Madison Small is approaching, and Once again the Rams will support this cause. Reminder that the last 2 weeks of weight room on Tuesdays and Thursdays start at 6:30am and working with the awesome Coach Kirkland. Please make sure you are on time for that!!!

Softball peeps: We have yet another change to the schedule. Wednesday practice is being moved to Thursday at 6:30pm now I’m the Aux Gym. Hope to see everyone there!!! Go Rams!!!

All: Unfortunately we are getting bumped from our gym slot tomorrow night as the 2-hour delay forces the winter sports later into the evening. So long as no further delays we will be back in the weight room Thursday morning. Thanks.

Softball News: Due to Delay...No Weight Room Tomorrow!

Good evening Rams Softball Families: We are down to our final 2 green days of the fall and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Please dress appropriately. The dates and times are as follows: Tuesday, 10/23 - 4:30-6pm Thursday, 10/25 - 4:30-6:30pm (1st Annual Rams World Series) On Thursday, 10/25 we will host a series of competitions between 2 teams (Team Blue & Team Red) that will include hitting, fielding and skills. Prizes for the winning team!!! Please plan to attend and make sure you have all of your paperwork & VHSL physical completed and submitted to the Athletic Department! I will be at the field at 8:45am for anyone that wants to store their gear. #LeaveNoDoubt Go Rams!!!

Good evening Rams: It appears that we will get on the field tomorrow even if it’s in the outfield to get started. Looking forward to it for sure. 4:30-6:30pm! Reminder...you MUST have your physical and paperwork completed to allow you to participate! No exceptions. I will be at the softball press box at 8:50 tomorrow morning for anyone who is interested in leaving their gear. It will be locked up for the day. Attire is softball clothes.
