esterday at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, VA, the Riverside Rams and Independence Tigers wrapped up the regular season with an exciting meet. With their strong victory of 179-107, the Rams Girls Team captured the Potomac District Championship. The Boys fought hard, but lost for the only time this season, with the Tigers capturing the title 122-164.
It was a great regular season for the Rams, with the Girls finishing 8-0 and the Boys ending the season 7-1. This is the first title for the Rams since 2019.
Once we have the finalized official results, they will be posted on RiversideRams.net.
Next up for the Rams is the Region 5D Championship on Saturday, February 8 at Claude Moore.

Rams,
What a fantastic week of fun for Rams Swimming and a great wrap-up to a great regular season. From the synchronized swimming to the Boys vs Girls meet, and then Saturday’s wrap-up of the regular season with a great showing by the Boys and a Potomac District Championship for the Girls. Not only did we have incredible records for the regular season, but also, we showed everyone that no team has more fun than the Riverside Rams Swim Teams!

Rams,
What an amazing weekend we had. Friday night was Riverside Swimming at its finest – energetic, enthusiastic and FAST! Saturday’s celebration was amazing. The parade that Christine Farman and Christina Tragle organized for us was incredible, and so much fun! So many of our seniors’ neighbors enjoyed it and kept telling us that we were number 1 and yelling words at us (I’m sure they were words of encouragement and congratulations!). And then, the meet was a blast.
Now…we have one more regular season obstacle ahead of us. Independence is what stands between us and our first District Championship(s) since 2019. Lock in. Get ready. Let’s have some fun and make it happen!

The complete meet results are available on RiversideRams.net.
On Saturday, the Rams celebrated Senior Day with our annual Senior Parade and the our presentation during the break at the meet. We'll miss our 16(!) graduates. It was a great day at the pool swimming as well, with the Rams earning wins over the Rock Ridge Phoenix. The Boys won 191-95 and the Girls won 203-68. The results for this meet are also posted on RiversideRams.net.

Rams,
Yesterday was a great day. You faced a tough opponent and came in with the energy, excitement, and determination required to win in convincing fashion. You should be proud of what you have accomplished as a team. Enjoy it today and get ready for the coming tough battles with additional strong challengers.
As I promised, because you delivered yesterday, Monday’s practice is OPTIONAL for all swimmers. As always with optional practices, there will be Boys vs Girls points on the line. Whichever team has the highest percentage attendance earns 5 points. Right now, the Boys have a 5-point lead because they achieved 35 improved times yesterday, topping the Girls 29. Both are impressive numbers, and I am excited for you to keep up the improvement.
This week is an exciting, and exhausting, one. It’s our “double weekend” with meets on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon. On Friday, we have Lightridge at Ida Lee. This is a District meet and, as we have discussed, they have a very strong team. Their Boys team gave us a tough battle last year, and their Girls team has a very tough freshman crew that is coming after us. We need to bring our best on Friday night.
Then, on Saturday, we get to celebrate our seniors with a fun meet against Rock Ridge. We’ll start it off with our annual parade through the neighborhoods. I have included details on how senior day works below.
We are still working on our lineups for this weekend. As soon as we have them ready, I will distribute them to you.
Parents – we still need volunteers for this weekend. Please sign up.
For Friday, we need a starter and 3 timers - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A44AEAE22AA8-53140740-lightridge#/
For Saturday, we need a referee, a head timer, and 5 timers - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A44AEAE22AA8-53140867-rock#/
Senior Day Celebration
On Saturday, we celebrate our 17(!) seniors (16 swimmers and one manager). We’ll kick things off with our parade during which we’ll visit every senior swimmer’s house, deliver gifts, and annoy their neighbors with celebratory noise. Each senior will join the parade as we work our way through the neighborhoods and, after celebrating our final senior on the route, we’ll caravan to Claude Moore for our meet with Rock Ridge. During the break of the meet, we’ll hold our “Senior Night” ceremony at the break after 50 freestyle. I’ll send more information out about the parade route, timing, etc. shortly in a separate email.
Here is your schedule for the week of January 20:
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45-6:00 pm - OPTIONAL
Tuesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Wednesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Thursday: Team Meeting, 4:30-5:15 pm
Friday: Swim Meet vs Lightridge at Ida Lee – be at the pool, ready to swim, by 6:45 pm. Warm-ups start at 7:00 pm
Saturday: Senior Parade in the morning leading us to…Senior Day Meet vs Rock Ridge. We’ll meet at Riverside at 9:00 am to start the parade. The meet starts at 12:00 pm.
Enjoy your Sunday and the fact that you can sleep in on Monday because there is no school.

Yesterday at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling, VA, the Riverside Rams Swim Teams delivered impressive wins over the Briar Woods Falcons teams. The Boys won 172-114 and the Girls won 162-124. The Rams teams are now 5-0.
It was a great day of racing for the Rams, with the team delivering sixty-four season's best time swims. Of this, the Boys delivered 35, and the girls had 29. In addition, freshman Tolga Kilic qualified for the State Championship meet with tremendous swims in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Rams,
I hope that you are well-rested and ready for the rest of the season. It’s been a while since we’ve had any real practices and we get back at it this week, so be ready to be focused and diligent in the work that we do. We have a tough schedule ahead and, if we put things together well, we can earn our first District Championship titles in several years. Let’s do it!
On Saturday, we face off against Briar Woods. This is going to be a close meet for both the Boys and the Girls. Every race will matter, and we are up for the challenge. I’ll get the lineup to you as soon as possible.
Parents – we need a few volunteers for Saturday, including a Starter, Stroke & Turn official and a timer. Please sign up https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A44AEAE22AA8-53140752-briar#/

Yesterday at Claude Moore Recreation Center, the Riverside Rams Swim teams topped the Broad Run Spartans teams to start 2025 with strong wins and improve their records to 4-0. It was a fun meet and a great start to the new year. The Boys won 176-110. The Girls won 201-77.
In addition to the Boys 400 Free relay achieving a state cut time, several Rams swimmers improved their times, most notably freshman Nick McCowen who has dropped over 15 seconds in his 500 free time over the course of the season.
The Rams next meet is Saturday, January 11, where they'll take on all LCPS teams in the Briar Woods Invitational meet at Claude Moore Recreation Center.

Rams,
Yesterday was a fun start to 2025. It was great to get back together as a full team, and to race…and race well. And it was a lot of fun to see Mr. Ahearn and Coach Davies for our first meet ever with Broad Run.
We are now at the mid-point of our season in terms of meets, and we’ve accomplished a lot so far. Both teams are undefeated (4-0) and positioned well for runs at both the District and Regional Championships. We have achieved 10 state cut times and I’m sure there are many more to come. Our verified state qualifiers (so far) are:
Boys 200 Medley Relay
Boys 200 IM – Nikita Kresin & Tolga Kilic
Girls 200 IM – Elle Santucci
Boys 50 Free – Lucas Pham
Boys 100 Free – Harper Freeman
Boys 500 Free – Harper Freeman
Boys 200 Free Relay
Boys 100 Breast – Nikita Kresin
Boys 400 Free Relay
This week is an exciting one. We have the Briar Woods Invitational meet on Saturday and we’ll get to compete against every high school in Loudoun County. It is going to be a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to some great races. I will send the lineup to you tomorrow. Coach Quinn and I have reviewed it thoroughly and believe that both teams have an excellent opportunity to capture the championships for the first time ever.
Some details about Saturday:
- Meet is at Claude Moore.
- The entire team will travel together by bus to the meet. The bus will leave Riverside at 8:25 am. All swimmers are to attend, not just those entered in the meet.
- Warmups run from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. It will be an open warm-up session using 14 lanes.
- Gates open to the public at 9:30 am. The cost for entry (nonvolunteers) is $7.00.
- We will need volunteers for this meet – 2 timers and one stroke and turn official. As soon as I receive a signup for this, I’ll distribute it.
- If swimmers want to ride home with their parents after the meet and not take the bus, I need to be notified via email by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
I do not have any insight on LCPS’s decision about school closures, so I can only plan for us to be open and at practice, as scheduled. If LCPS closes school, this does not automatically cancel practice. Oftentimes, they will clear us to practice in the evenings. If school is closed tomorrow and/or Tuesday, I will let you know about practice as soon as I know.
Here is your schedule for the week of January 6.
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Wednesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm – King & Queen of the Pool Races. See brackets - https://bigteams-public-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/library/files/riversideathletics.bigteams_com_145966/files/20250108%20-%20Battle%20of%20the%20Pool.pdf
Thursday: Team meeting, 4:30-5:15 pm
Friday: Pasta Party at Caleb Johnson’ house, 6:00 pm – 19056 Amur Court
Saturday: Briar Woods Invitational at Claude Moore. Bus leaves Riverside at 8:25 am.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and we’ll see you at the pool Monday(?).

Rams,
Yesterday was a battle for many of us. This is not because of the challenge that Stone Bridge presented in the pool, but because of the mental and physical exhaustion that we were all dealing with during this Thanksgiving to New Year’s stretch. You fought hard, you showed spirit, and you delivered our third wins of the season and set us up for an amazing run in January and beyond.
You did this through hard work, fast swimming, and energetic support of one another. Team does make a difference. Keep fighting for one another and great things will happen.
Believe it or not, we are now at the middle of the regular season – 14 practices down, 14 to go. We have a total of 6 weeks remaining – two shortened weeks of during winter break and then our crazy stretch of 5 dual meets and the Briar Woods Invitational Championship meet from January 4 to February 1. We cannot lose focus or slack off now. We have begun the season strongly and have championship opportunities (Briar Woods Invite and District and Regional Championships). We cannot slack off now and lose focus on what our teams can accomplish together.
This week, we’ll have a great practice on Monday and then, hopefully, you’ll hit the pool at least once more on your own. The same is true for the week of December 30 to wrap up 2024. Remember that while these practices are considered optional, there are Boys vs Girls points on the line – the highest percentage attendance wins 5 points per practice. It’s all tied up now, with the Boys winning the spirit contest yesterday.
When we return to our full schedule in January, we’ll have our Battle in the Pool and determine our King and Queen of the Pool for 2024-25. Who will win this year’s crowns? It’s going to be a lot of fun.
To help you plan, here is your schedule over the next 3 weeks.
For the week of December 23:
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuesday: OFF
Wednesday: OFF – Merry Christmas!
For the week of December 30:
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuesday: OFF
Wednesday: OFF – Happy New Year!
Saturday: Meet vs Broad Run at Claude Moore. Be at the pool, ready to swim at 11:45 am.
For the week of January 6:
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Tuesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Wednesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm – King & Queen of the Pool!
Thursday: Team Meeting, 4:30-5:15 pm
Friday: Pasta Party at the Johnsons - 19056 Amur Ct, Leesburg, VA 20176 – 6:00-8:00 pm
Saturday: Briar Woods Invitational at Claude Moore. More information to come soon.
Enjoy your time with your family. Get some rest and get ready for the final Sprint of the Season!
Have a fantastic Holiday Season and Happy New Year.

Rams,
We had a great week of practices and a fun and energetic meet yesterday with Tuscarora. Congratulations to everyone on some great swims, and congratulations to the Girls team for earning 5 points in the Boys vs Girls Meet for having more “better times” than the Boys yesterday. We’ll have another challenge this week that I’ll announce soon.
As we discussed on Thursday, and I reinforced yesterday, we are entering the toughest stretch of our season over the next 3 weeks. This is where you can make or break a lot of your success that you’ve worked so hard for already. We have a meet on Saturday against Stone Bridge and then a long break from racing, and regular practices, so let’s enjoy yesterday’s performance today and come up with your plan for Winter Break.
Over Winter Break, we will hold practices on Monday, December 23, and Monday, December 30. While these practices will be considered “Optional” and not count as unexcused absences if you are not there, I do expect everyone to attend. In addition, I expect EVERYONE to figure out ways to swim 2-3 additional times each week over break.
You have worked so hard over the last month to get into shape, and it shows! You cannot afford to take time off over break and lose what you’ve built for yourself. When we return after break we jump right into our most competitive meets of the season, and it goes quickly. You will not have time to rebuild and refocus. Keep it going. Make a plan. Be ready to tell me your plan tomorrow when I ask you about it.
Parents – We need a Referee for Saturday’s meet. Please sign up.

On Friday night at the pasta party, the team is holding its “White Elephant” gift exchange. Each swimmer should bring a gift that costs no more than $25 for the game. If you have questions about how it will work, please see your Team Captains. They are the organizers of this fun event.
I’ll be posting Saturday’s line-up later today.
Here is your schedule for the week of December 16.
Monday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Wednesday: Practice at Lansdowne, 4:45 -6:00 pm
Thursday: Team meeting, 4:30-5:15 pm
Friday: Pasta Party at Pasta Party at Freeman’s House – 18745 Upper Meadow Dr – 6:00 pm
White Elephant Gift Exchange
Saturday: Swim Meet vs Stone Bridge, warm-ups start at 12:00 pm at Claude Moore. Be at the pool, ready to swim at 11:45 am.

Last week was a great start to our season. Practices were challenging and you showed that, not only are you up to the challenge, but also you can thrive and be successful when you put your mind to it. Continue to work hard, focus on the details, and lead one another by example.
This week is a short one, so come ready to focus on details Monday and Tuesday as you head into the holiday. Our meets start when we return from break, so get ready!
If your parents are not receiving email from me, please make sure that they get their email address to me. Here is the link to sign up - https://forms.gle/Dst4dWaU9d6icswq7. I want to make sure everyone is fully informed throughout the season.
Parents – We need meet officials. It is a great role to take on – you have the best spot in the house to see the events, you get to wear white shirts, and every once in a while, you get splashed to cool off. Please help! Here is information on how to become a VHSL official.
I have VHSL rule books for you to borrow to become certified. Please consider doing this for the team. We really need certified officials every year.
Here is your schedule for the week of November 25. It’s a short week of school and practice. Let’s make it productive and efficient. Then, we can rest up, enjoy Thanksgiving with our families, and then come back ready to get our meets started.
Monday: Practice at The Potomac Club, 4:45-6:00 pm
Tuesday: Kickapalooza! Practice at The Potomac Club, 4:45-6:00 pm
Wednesday: Rest and help your family prepare for Thanksgiving
Thursday: Enjoy the time with your family.
Friday: Recover from enjoying time with your family. Maybe even go for a swim!
Saturday & Sunday: Get ready to get back to work on Monday!
Go Rams!

Rams,
Welcome to the 2024-25 Riverside Rams swim season. Coach Quinn and I are excited to get started and to have a fantastic season.
We get things rolling with a busy schedule this week – first practices, team picture, parents meeting, and team meeting. Yes, that’s normal for the season that is definitely a sprint – a fun, fast, and fantastic time.
If your parents are not receiving email from me, please make sure that they get their email address to me. Here is the link to sign up - https://forms.gle/Dst4dWaU9d6icswq7. I want to make sure everyone is fully informed throughout the season.
Who will earn the first points in the Boys vs Girls meet? There are many of you that need to complete your requirements. Remember, the deadline for EVERYTHING is tomorrow, Monday, November 18.
Report Cards – Girls 17/25 (8 left); Boys 5/25 (20! Left)
Questionnaire – Girls 17/25 (8 left); Boys 18/25 (7 left)
Payments – Girls 12/25 (13! Left); Boys 18/25 (7 left)
Concussion – No information yet
Please remind your parents that the Riverside Winter Sports meeting is at school on Monday at 7:00 pm. I’d like to encourage all parents to attend so that they don’t miss any information from the athletic department (VHSL and LCPS rules and regulations). In addition, there will be a swim team only session following the athletic department’s presentation. We’ll be meeting in the auditorium.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be having some great, and challenging, workouts as we prepare for our first meet on December 7. Be ready to practice HARD over the coming weeks. Your practice lane assignment is attached.
If you have not already done so, purchase/organize your equipment: Suit, Goggles, Pull Buoys, Fins, and Snorkel. Bring your equipment with you to every practice and make sure you have a water bottle (full) for each practice! You can leave your swim bags in my classroom throughout the day if you want/need to.
We always start and finish on time. Do not be late. We are in the water and swimming right at the start of practice. Also, we request that all parents please be at the pool to pick up your swimmers by 6:00 pm. This will avoid having swimmers (and coaches) standing outside in the cold waiting for pick-ups.
We welcome you to show your team spirit and demonstrate support for the team by purchasing and wearing some official Rams Swim Team gear. The online store closes tomorrow, Monday, November 18. Your orders will be delivered to you at home. There’s some great stuff available. Check it out!
