Cross Country- Trick or Treat Run

Good Afternoon Rams!

We need your help with our annual Trick or Treat Run! Below are the details we hope you can help this another great year of tricks and treats for the Rams XC team!

Who: You!

When: Wednesday, October 17th

Time: The event will start at 4 30PM and go till approximately 6 30PM

Where: Lansdowne and Riverside

What: The team will dress is costumes for the run, we will run to "host" families throughout Lansdowne, Coach D will provide each house a trick ( plank, burpees, lunges, crunches, your choice of exercise) and after they complete the trick you provide them with a treat ( candy, snacks, water, cookies, toys, etc.)

Here's how you can help:

1) Volunteer to be a host family, can't be home for the event but still want to participate- you can leave the treat outside and I will ensure they do the trick first! We ask that houses that are hosting be located near Riverside ( Riverpoint Rd, Kipheart, or nearby) The trick or treating will take place from 4 30- 6PM.

2) Candy and Treat donations for the after party and Trivia

If you are interested in helping in either way, please email Coach DeGaetano at Rivesidexctf@gmail.com.

Thank you in advance!

Last Week - The team had another unpredictable week of weather! This is like no other season! But we were able to train through the weather and are all ready for the upcoming week! The athletes traveled to the Carlisle Invitational were the boys placed fourth overall among 60 teams and the girls placed 18th among 60 teams! Both teams ran like a strong pack coming in one after another! It was a great day to be Ram as they crushed three knee high creek crossing and ran through wet terrain! Following the meet, they headed to Hershey Park for sweets and coasters! Great job to all those that were part of this season's travel meet! In addition, a number of our athletes did not let the fact that Octoberfest got canceled not hold them back from racing! The course is entirely mowed grass and offers a mixture of flat and hill running. The start offers open, unobstructed running for several hundred meters with excellent mobility throughout the entire course. The course is little affected by even the most extreme adverse weather conditions. It provides an excellent surface for spikes or flats. It is also an excellent spectator course and offers easy race visibility for well over 4000 of 5000 meters. Recent changes over the past several years have only opened up even MORE of the course to be easily watched. The course has been the site of NCAA regional and national cross country finals. It has been described by an out-of-state coach from a nationally ranked team as one of the top high school courses in the United States.

Cross Country- Weekly Email 9/24-9/29

Good Afternoon Rams!

I know this email is a little later than normal but it was a busy weekend for us Rams so getting it out a little later than normal! Below is the recap of last week, meet highlights, and news for the upcoming week! As well as information from our Team Parent Mrs. Logan!

Last Week:

Last week the squad, did a hill workout followed by a speed workout a few days later! It was great to get some speed in! Coach Warthen joined us for our speed workout as a special guest speaker. We also had a friendly and fun game of kickball on Thursday! Red team took the win! A big thank you to our host family The Gnatek's for hosting the team for Friday nights pasta party! It was very eventful!

Meet Highlights:

LCXC at Rock Ridge

Saturday morning was a great way to start the day with the Rams! The course was a true cross country course. It had every type of terrain - grass, gravel, dirt, roots, stumps, rocks, bridges, creek crossings, uphill and downhill. It was all that and more! And the Rams were more than ready to take on the challenging course and go after it!

Our varsity boys placed 4th overall and 3rd among 4A schools! Greyson was one spot away from an All County Finish, placing 16th! The boys as a whole had an outstanding race, we ran as a pack and we ran aggressive from the start. Nice work guys!

Our varsity girls placed 7th overall and 3rd among 4A schools! Maria got out with a strong start to the race and Courtney was the first female to finish for the lady Rams! Emily had her first go in a varsity race and did not disappoint! The girls had a great start to the season on a difficult course, they were able to push through different terran and had some past runners come out and cheer them on!

Our upperclassmen JV boys, placed 3rd overall! And 3 of our guys placed in the top 20! Congratulations to Jason, Spencer, and Sam Hall for placing in the top 20. The upperclassmen crushed each challenge as it came!

RVA Relays

RVA was nothing but excited from the start, the atmosphere was awesome! The JV squad enjoyed the music, the flat and fast course, and the girls even got a chance to race under the lights with the glow! It was great to check out a new meet and it will defiantly be one to add to the mix in the future! The fun didn't stop after the meet, the bus ride home was full of singing and fun!

The fastest split of the boys relay was held by Tyler Donovan. He also had the fastest time of the Rams boys on Saturday! The boys relay had a great start by Jake Bollman.

The fastest split of the girls relay was held by Alexa Rehmat. The ladies had great chemistry as a fairly new and young  group.

The boys open race was exciting to watch as many of our younger runners had their first race of the season.

The open girls race was under the lights with the glow lights out too! The ladies were led by Gabby O with the fastest time of the day on the ladies side! Elizabeth J also had a strong start to her season!

Cross Country- Help Needed

Cross country parents,

Thank you to all of you who have reached out offering to help with bus parking during the Oatlands Invitational on September 15.  We could still use a few more people.  If you’re able to do bus parking, please email me at Matt.Oblas@LCPS.org and we’ll add you to the list.  J  The more people we have, the easier it is.

I’ll be sending out more specific information in the next week or so, but in general:

**Bus parking Duty on race day (6:45-8:00 am) –need at least 10 parents

We would love to get a few people to monitor the bus parking lot throughout the day.  We only need one person to sit in the lot during the following schedules:

8:00am-9:30am

9:30am-11am

11-12:30pm

This person will sit in the bus parking lot by the driveway.  Bring a chair or sit in your car.  You’ll keep car parkers out of the bus loop. Relax, but monitor that parking lot.  Perhaps this is a little too early for people to sign up, as you may be waiting to find out when your son or daughter races that day.  If you know you’d be able to work in this job, please let me know and we can figure out the specific times as we get closer to the race.

Thank you all VERY much for your help!
Matt Oblas

Cross Country- Concession Help

Parents and Athletes see below, thank you for your help! Athletes who sign up can earn volunteer hours as well!

We need someone from each family to sign up at least 2 times this season to help with concessions and tickets at the fall games. These jobs are critical to run a successful athletic event.  $10 per volunteer slot filled is donated directly back to your team.  You will receive a reminder email a week before your shift.  This is easy money for the team and we need everyone’s help in filling the slots.

If you cannot work the slot you signed up for, please find a replacement.  If you can’t find a replacement, please contact  Karen Upton at uptonklh@gmail.com

To sign up:

  1. Go to the athletic page at RiversideRams.net.
  2. Click “Volunteer Sign Up” at the top of the page.
  3. Click the signup genius link. (http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0F4FADAA28A3F58-spring)
  4. Find a date, time, duty that works well with your schedule. Click as many as you’re able to do. Hit submit.
  5. WHEN YOU DO YOUR SHIFT, MAKE SURE YOU SIGN IN WITH YOUR NAME AND WHICH TEAM. THE BOOK WILL BE IN THE TICKET BOOTH OR IN CONCESSIONS. THIS IS HOW THEY TRACK HOW MUCH TO PAY US.
  6. You’ll get a reminder from signup genius a few days before your shift.

Please be sure to signup. It’s fun, easy, and money for our team!

Cross Country- Help Needed!

Good Afternoon Rams,

As with any organized sport or activity, fundraising is needed to cover expenses throughout the season. Our team relies on the volunteer efforts at local races from which we get money; on the money we receive from concession duty; and parent donations.

Since most of our team expenses are for food throughout the season (snacks, team banquet, etc), we would like the donations this year to be in the form of grocery store gift cards. We have volunteers scheduled throughout the season to purchase snacks, bagels, etc. Giving them a grocery store gift card for these purchases would help ease the reimbursement process.

If you would like to donate to this team fund, please send in a $25 gift card to Wegmans, Giant, or Panera (this will be used for our Tuesday bagels). We use them throughout the season as needs arise.

Thank you in advance for your help!
