Coach Matt Burkett-Erice starts is in his third season as Head Varsity Wrestling Coach. Coach Matt has been coaching for over 19 years with 7 years as a high school head coach in Hawaii. He has coached on various state national teams for 10 years and is currently a USA Wrestling Silver level coach. As a wrestler, he was a 4x Conference Champion, 2x Regional Champion, 4x State placer, USA Wrestling Veterans National Champion, and 3x All-American. As a coach, he has coached multiple individual state and national champions. He wrestles and promotes all styles of wrestling: Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco, Beach, and Sambo. He is currently serving as the Virginia Wrestling Association (VAWA) Greco Developmental Coach and the Social Media Director.
This past summer he attend the Cadet/Junior National Championship in Fargo, ND with Team Virginia and was a Greco National Team Coach. He is also a USA Wrestling Referee with Virginia. He was selected by the Capitol Area Wrestling League (CAWL) to attend the 2024 Future Olympian Youth Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado in 2017. His experience as a wrestler and as a coach is invaluable to the Riverside Wrestling program.
Coach Matt is married and has two girls. During his free time he enjoys cooking and trying out new BBQ recipes.

We are excited have Coach Charles back for a 4th year at Riverside High School as the JV Head Coach. He also serves as a Varsity Assistant Coach. Coach Charles has been with Riverside since 2015. As a wrestler, he competed for 5 years and was voted MVP as a Freshmen.

This past summer she was the Virginia Women's National Head Coach and coached the 2019 Cadet/Junior National Women's Team. She coached 2 athletes to All-American honors this past summer. With a total Virginia All-American record of 16 All-Americans. She is an advocate for growing the sport of wrestling by introducing a female division for elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She also serves as a member of the Virginia Women's Wrestling Advisory Board to promote women's wrestling.
Aubrey is married and has two girls, Jessie and Julianna. Both girls also hold black belts in Karate and Wrestle. Jessie is a 2015 World Silver Medalist in Karate and a 2x VAWA Freestyle Women's State Wrestling Champion, and currently ranked 10th in the NAIA Wrestling Individual Rankings. Jessie is currently attending Lyon College and a member of the women’s wrestling team. Julianna is a multiple state and national place winner for Karate, a 2018 and 2019 VAWA Freestyle Women’s State placer, and a member of the RVHS wrestling team. She is currently ranked 4th in the VAWA Female Individual Wrestling Rankings.

Riverside is pleased to announce Mr. Bill Bono as head varsity wrestling coach. A college wrestler at Slippery Rock State University in Pennsylvania from 1976-1980, Coach Bono also has an extensive coaching career. He has been a high school assistant coach in Pennsylvania, at Sherando High School, and at Loudoun Valley High School. He has also worked as a head coach at Randolph Macon Academy and at Stone Bridge High School from 2000-2006. Coach Bono has had the honor of coaching 13 state champions and numerous District, Conference, and Regional Champions.

We are excited to announce that Coach Mullis has been named the Varsity Assistant Coach. He joins us for a 3rd year at Riverside High School. Coach Mullis brings over 12 years of wrestling experience to the Riverside wrestling team. As a wrestler, he competed at the state level and was a 2x State Champion. He also competed in the Virginia Duals. Prior to joining the Riverside High School wrestling team, he was a coach for Ida Lee youth flag football. Coach Mullis also has over 30 years of martial arts training. He holds a 3rd degree black belt in Hapkido and a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Coach Mullis served in the United States Air Force as a Combat Controller, he later transitioned to the Federal Government. Coach Mullis also holds various certifications in multiple fields, and uses that to provide training in the private sector.
Coach Mullis and his wife Amy have two children, Brady and Nathan. Brady is a graduate of Penn State University and Nathan is a Junior at RVHS and plays football.
