RAMS Girls Lacrosse: TEAM FIRST tonight and every night

RAM Families,

We are excited to take the field tonight in THE CAGE against another strong competitor, Dominion!  Welcome to 4A Women's Lacrosse, tough competition at most every turn, and we are ready to take another big step together as a TEAM. Our squad is working so hard on and off the field to add high level concepts on our offensive and defensive sides of the field.  As coaches, we are extremely proud of their dedication to our system, their brave spirits and their TEAM FIRST attitude. This is a special group of athletes and we are honored to stand with them tonight and every night.

FANS, we need you TONIGHT!!  Bring your positive energy, you best RAM cheers and the amazing support that you have given to our program and our players since day one.  We have a battle on our hands tonight, and I know that when your player catches a glimpse of a supportive fan on the sideline, it will empower them to drive hard and play smart no matter how experienced the opponent may be.  Winners do not determine their identity by a scoreboard, winners trust each other and fight fair and fierce as a TEAM.  We are winners always...

We are HEART and SMART all night tonight ladies and it starts the minute we take the field for warmup.  Let's rattle THE CAGE tonight!!

GO RAMS!

History was made TONIGHT! RAMS Girls Lacrosse

History was made tonight...

RAMS,

Congratulations on our first lacrosse win at Riverside!  We were thrilled to have a fully engaged fan section at our back tonight as we took the field in our first official game against a very worthy opponent in Rock Ridge High School.

As a young team, it was exciting to see our team begin to build chemistry and momentum and shake off the first game jitters.  We have all the pieces to an amazing lacrosse puzzle right in front of us and we will continue to train and work until all those individual pieces are connected in one flowing end line to end line transition.  We had some shining moments and also identified areas of focus before our next game at Freedom on Thursday night.

Many thanks to all of  our amazing parents for their volunteer efforts on the scorekeeping at the table, in the press box, stats in the stands, uploading to HUDL, lanyard organization and everything else!!  All stats are now uploaded and being tracked at 2 sites, check them out:

LAXPOWER and Washington Post All Met Scorekeeper

Freedom will be a strong competitor, fast in the midfield and tough in the goal. We will be ready and looking forward to having our entire fan section at our backs once again to bring home the W!

Training tomorrow will be in the stadium from 4:10pm until 5:30pm.

Also, the amazing Larry Wharton is photographing all of our games and has already taken over 100 pictures of the team.  We will create a photo site to upload all photos for sharing and end of the year slide show purposes:)

So proud of everyone for a great first victory!

BLESSED Riverside RAMS Girls Lacrosse

Blessed

Families, player, fans and mini RAMS,

As we prepare to take the field tonight in our first ever Riverside home game, I cannot help to get a little overwhelmed when I think back on the dedication, support and commitment you all have given to me and this awesome program. We began this journey last summer with a handful of kids at a youth camp and what has evolved since has been truly amazing.

Tonight we take an exciting next step down a path that will lead us to unbelievable accomplishments, crazy challenges, ups, downs, new friends, old buddies and the experience of a lifetime.  As we step onto that beautiful turf tonight and begin our journey down this path as a program, please know that every bit of support, encouragement and love that you have shown us all along, will empower and drive us forward.  We take a little piece of each of you onto that field with us tonight and win, lose or draw, we are winning because we have you beside us.

RAMS Girls Lacrosse Scrimmage Update for Liberty HS this Wednesday

RAM Lacrosse Family,

We are very excited to kick off Scrimmage Week 2016 with upcoming events against Liberty Bealton at HOME on Wednesday and Brunswick High School AWAY on Friday.  We will also have our very first team dinner on Tuesday evening at the Chiari's house immediately following Tuesday training.  Team dinners are critical to team chemistry and we are so thankful to our amazing families who are rapidly filling up the sign up sheet to host and donate food, THANK YOU!

In preparation for our first scrimmage this Wednesday, I want to share a few format expectations about preseason play.

  •  Scrimmages are considered practices by VHSL guidelines.  As such, there will be no announcer in the press box, nor playing of the National Anthem and the protocol that normally accompanies that tradition at regularly scheduled game.  The format will also be much looser; frequently, scrimmages offer an opportunity for coaches to stop play for instruction,  Liberty High School has also  requested that we play 10 minute games alternating Varsity and JV. We will accomodate this request and plan to start promptly at 6pm and play consecutive 10 minute games for approximately 80 to 90 minutes total.  We are excited to pack our stands with fans, and just want to be sure that our parent cheerleaders understand the format for Wednesday prior to scrimmage time so that you can anticipate a mixed schedule for 90 minutes rather than 2 separate scrimmages.

Please take a moment to confirm your away game meal package with Suha Boswell.  We encourage all players to take advantage of this delicious and very necessary meal opportunity.  It is a great deal and all players will need consistent fuel prior to games.

GO RAMS!

RAMS Girls Lacrosse TIME and LOCATION change for today!

RAMS,

Day FOUR is here and great things are happening already; we are on the practice turf at 4pm!  This is an adjustment to our original prediction of time and training space, so PLEASE BE SURE THAT EVERYONE KNOWS!

We will wrap up training and meet with players individually regarding team selection.  This is an exciting and nerve wracking time and we ask that you put your jitters aside tonight and commit to a focused intense training.  Consider this quote from the legendary Coach John Wooden:

"Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable."

Let's go RAMS!

PS...We are hoping to hold the TRYOUT WRAP UP Meeting for parents and players tomorrow following training.  We will confirm once our schedule is confirmed based on field availability.

RAMS Girls Lacroose: Day THREE

Day THREE ?

RAMS,

With DAY THREE behind us, we are moving towards the end of our 4 day tryout process. The third day tends to be the most difficult on players as fatigue has started to set in and occasionally the focus drifts. We are proud of you for fighting through the DAY THREE challenge and ending with the highest intensity of the night.

We encourage you all to fuel up, rehydrate, get the homework finished and get to bed! We are heading into the final day of tryouts tomorrow and we know that you will finish strong.

Tryouts tomorrow will most likely be from 5:45 to 7:30 on the stadium. Yes, TURF!! We will send final details via Twitter, TeamSnap and RiversideRams once we have confirmation from the Athletic Department. However, we will meet at 5pm for the last RAM Cup Challenge. Please meet outside the Counseling Office for this activity:)

Parents, with this change in the schedule, we will cancel the TRYOUT Wrap Up Meeting previously scheduled for tomorrow at 6pm. Sorry for the convenience, but the weather has created multiple challenges. Thank you for your understanding.

Lastly, we will be finalizing our roster tomorrow following the final tryout and we will be meeting with each player separately.

Thank you all for your dedication to the tryout process this week! We know that we are asking you to push yourselves skill wise, from a fitness perspective and also in groups to problem solve and work with new teammates in challenges on and off the field.

RAMS Girls Lacrosse: Day ONE is in the books!

Day ONE of tryouts is officially in the books!  You were engaged, focused on improving and launched our program with an awesome team climate footprint...we are proud of all of you!

Bring on Day TWO...we know that you will bring the skills and the energy, only question remaining is where will you bring it and when?!?  The answer is: be patient, remain flexible and ready for anything.

Weather is expected tomorrow that will deteriorate our already saturated field and we are avoiding use of our grass field.  We are awaiting the morning and decisions from the Athletic Department as to our options, but at this point in time, we need to ask you to stay ready for anything tomorrow.  We can tell you that options include:

Stadium turf in a late spot:  8-9:30pm

Main Gym: 6-8pm

Outside:  4:15-6pm

But, there could be a major shift in the schedule, so please be prepared for inside and outside and have running shoes and cleats with you.

As always, we are thankful for  your support and patience as we navigate weather.  Tryout Week is notorious for changes due to snow/rain/extreme cold and it really wouldn't be Tryout Week without a few logistical challenges:)

RAMS Girls Lacrosse Green Day Update

RAMS,

Great turnout this morning at 6:30am for PHASE 2!  Work ethic is job one and we are seeing the commitment in players that continue to show up and put in the work day after day.  Ironically, I just got off the phone with my buddy Joe Spallina, Head Coach at Stony Brook, and we were talking about the kind of players he wants on his team.  Here is a direct quote from Coach Spallina "I want skilled kids with a blue collar work ethic that are tough and love their families".  Are you that player?  Keep showing up, committing and putting in the work and you will be!

Green Days are condensing down to once per week, Thursdays, right after school at 4:15pm.  Tomorrow we are on the stadium and we are not sure the lights are fixed yet, so please stay tuned for an update on training end time.

Go RAMS!!  46 days til tryouts!

RAMS Girls Lacrosse is rolling...

RAMS, Another nice win in the record book last night ladies! Here are a few highlights from the coaching team: You played ALL OUT against a somewhat unknown opponent. The only scouting we were able to do on Brentsville was against a strong Dominion team and it left us a bit in the dark on their offensive backbone. You did not take the matchup lightly. We kept pressure on the ball from end line to end line. The TRASHMEN were on duty all night long and maintained possession on anything that skipped wide or high behind the goal. Meghna and the entire defensive unit challenged themselves to add a new reverse swing off the clear that skipped wide or high off our own shots. The offense was creative(to say the least considering Keke's diving goal!!) and effectively rattled the shell shocked goalie right out of her comfort zone. The week ahead offers us even more opportunities to use our team offensive rules, defensive initiatives and our TEAM FIRST approach to "writing our own ending" every time we take the field. FANS: We need you Monday night against Valley; they are LOUD and they will bring the NOISE! Can we answer? Is the pom pom squad ready to take the show on the road? Do we have the fight song on replay and is Big Trav already wearing his lucky ram head? Back us up on Monday night and we promise to give you a fireworks show on the field:) Chocolate milk: We are about to enter a few busy weeks leading to conference play and we need to focus on the little things. We added this to our prep meeting this morning with the team and you all know exactly what we want you to RAMS. FANS, can you help by donating chocolate milk for the end of each game from here on out? Mrs Boswell is donating on Monday, so we just need Wednesday this week and then the following games. Chocolate milk is the best immediate protein replacement and we want them having this within 20 minutes of each game. We have 23 players and 2 managers who I know would love a milk too...Sammy "works" very hard and Jessica really works hard managing the manager:) THANK YOU JESSICA BROYHILL!! Tomorrow night is Team Dinner Night at the Giachinta's at 6pm. #TEAMFIRST #noteasyworthit

RAMS Girls Lacrosse: Great job today with our youth clinic!

RAMs, Great job tonight!! You made ALOT of youth players very happy tonight! Every one of those little girls left happy and having learned something new! We are so proud of you:) Conference update: Northern Virginia 4A schools have been split into 2 conferences, Evergreen and Dulles. We are officially in the Dulles Conference with a lineup of heavy hitters: Valley, County, Dominion, Woodgrove, Rock Ridge, Champe, Heritage and Park View. The Evergreen Conference is made up of 8 schools including Liberty, Brendtsville and Freedom among others. Here is why this is interesting...our loss to Freedom now means NOTHING in conference play and we have a clean slate heading into the start of our competitive conference play! The top 2 schools in the Dulles Conference will advance to regionals against the top 2 schools from the Evergreen Conference. Then the top 2 schools from regionals will advance to state semis/finals against the southern region. Bottom line, we are taking this season one day at a time and focusing on the challenge immediately in front of us, while still keeping our eyes on the horizon and planning properly for the next adventure:). The next 6 weeks will be an amazing ride for our young team and we will need the support of our families and fans as we rise to the challenges ahead of us! We will stay focused, meet each step as a team and we will drive our success! Let's GO Rams!! See you tomorrow morning bright and early at 6:45am on the practice turf.

Less than 24 hours til our first tryout!!

RAMS, Tomorrow is the day we have been preparing for since the summer! Day one of our first EVER Riverside Girls Lacrosse Tryout Week! The coaching team is so excited, we know there will be no sleep tonight as we watch that clock painfully tick by until tomorrow Quick reminder: 4:15pm start on OUR field. Be EARLY! Running shoes, cleats and all other needed equipment. Thought for tonight as you mentally prepare for tomorrow: 1.). Engage in this process, stay focused, overcome distraction and complete each task, each drill and each day. Filter out social media and put out positive energy to all athletes from all schools during this precious time. 2.). Improve. Every skill, drill and day. Absorb the concepts and challenge to get better with each and every opportunity. 3.). Love every minute. High School sports are one of the most impactful and amazing experiences and we challenge you to soak up every minute. No matter how difficult something may be, having a teammate by your side forms a lasting memory and bond that will stay with you forever. We will be monitoring the weather for tryout locations for the rest of the week and keep you updated. This is our time ladies, let's roll!!! #ramsdayone
