First day of practice

Today is the first day of practice. All student-athletes must have paperwork completed before practicing. Please bring any physical forms and turn them into Matt Oblas, Athletic Director, before practice. Also if you have not filled out the online portion, please do so at http://riversiderams.net/main/otherad/contentID/35765096.

What to wear:
Comfortable workout clothes, gym shorts/joggers and a t-shirt. Make sure that your top and shorts are not baggy, have zippers, buckles, flaps, or loose ties. You may wear either socks or wrestling shoes on your feet.

You can use the team locker room to change, but bring your bags into the wrestling room. We will issue you lockers this week, so that you can lock up your items in the locker room. For now, we don't want your personal items unlocked/unattended in the lockers rooms.

Other items to bring:
Items to shower after practice and a water bottle.

Remember to eat something an hour before practice. See you all there!

Other Equipment Recommendation

Hi Riverside Rams!

I've received a few questions about additional wrestling gear needed. The only item that you need to purchase is wrestling shoes. We do have school issued headgear, but you are welcome to purchase your own.

Wrestling shoes

Most new wrestlers purchase these shoes, because they are good beginner shoes and are at a good price point. I bought this too when I first started out.

These are the older version of my favorite shoes (I actually have this exact color) Many of the returning wrestlers have these shoes, as well. If you can't find your size in this version, the newer version is Aggressor 3.

You can also purchase shoes at Dicks or Top of the Podium(TOP) in Sterling VA. TOP is a specialty wrestling facility and they have some wrestling shoes available for purchase.

Headgear - optional

We do have headgear's that are school issued. They have been used for the last two year. If you prefer to purchase one for yourself, here is a link to a recommended headgear. I also recommend purchasing a chin cup. It helps keep the headgear from moving around.

Hygiene Products

1. Hibiclens. This an antiseptic/antimicrobial skin liquid soap. You use this when showering. It is pricey, but works to proactively combat skin infections. I have my own kids shower with regular soap, then go back over again with a small amount (no more than a quarter size) and wash again. You can purchase this from Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens.

2. Skin Shield. Used before practice and every match. Here a link for more info.

3. Defense wipes. These are wipes for on the go when you can't get to a shower soon. If we have a wrestling tournament that is an hour away, these are great to use to wipe down until you can get to a shower. However, most of the schools will have shower facilities on site.

4. Melaleuca/Tea Tree Oil. You can also make your own defense wipes with Melaleuca or Tea Tree oil. I make these for my own family (since everyone wrestles :)). Here is a great link to make your own.
